MNRE Extends BIS Certification Deadline for Above 200 kW Solar Inverters till December 31 The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has extended the im- plementation timeline for mandatory Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) cer- tification of Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) inverters with capacities above 200 kW, allowing manufacturers to continue supplying products based on self-certifi - cation until December 31, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The decision follows the government’s assessment of the limited availability of accredited testing facilities and the need to provide additional time for in - dustry compliance, MNRE stated in a notification. The notification pertains to Items 4 and 5 under the Solar Systems, Devic - es and Components Goods Order, 2025, which was issued on January 27, 2025, replacing the earlier Solar Photovolta - ics, Systems, Devices and Components Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2017. The 2025 or - der introduced mandatory BIS registra- tion requirements for five categories of solar products after a 180-day transition period. This latest notification supersedes the earlier extension granted on August 5, 2025, under which self-certification for SPV inverters exceeding 200 kW had been permitted until June 30, 2026. Under the revised timeline, manufactur - ers of SPV inverters above 200 kW can continue to avail self-certification, pro - vided they possess valid IEC certificates corresponding to the prescribed Indian Standards and test reports from accred- ited laboratories. MNRE Launches Green Hydrogen Certification Portal of India The Union Minister for New and Re- newable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, has launched the Green Hydrogen Certifica - tion Portal of India (GHCI) during the National Workshop on “Strengthening the National Green Hydrogen Mission: Through State Policies, Hubs and Infra - structure” organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in New Delhi. Developed by MNRE, the portal will facilitate transparent certification and regulatory compliance under the Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme of In - dia. Joshi urged States to actively partic - ipate in advancing the National Green Hydrogen Mission. He said that six states have already notified dedicated Green Hydrogen Policies, while seven others have integrated hydrogen into their existing industrial and renewable energy policy frameworks. He added that four more States are in the process of finalising their policies. Highlighting efforts to strengthen do- mestic manufacturing, he stated that financial incentives have been awarded to 15 companies to establish 3,000 MW per annum of indigenous electrolyser manufacturing capacity, reducing de - pendence on imported supply chains. In the refinery sector, Joshi noted that contracts have been awarded for the supply of 30,000 MTPA of green hydro - gen to IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, and NRL. He further highlighted that INR 84 crore has been sanctioned for pilot proj- ects testing 100 percent hydrogen injec - tion in the steel sector. On clean mobility, he stated that near - ly INR 208 crore has been allocated to support 37 hydrogen-fuelled vehicles and 9 strategic refuelling stations, com - plemented by an investment of INR 193.35 crore across seven national test - ing facilities. The MNRE Minister also underscored the Government’s focus on innovation and standards, noting that a dedicated R&D roadmap worth INR 113 crore is supporting 21 approved projects. He further highlighted that the Nation- al Green Hydrogen Mission has taken a significant step towards reducing import dependence, with agreements signed for the supply of 6.7 lakh MTPA of Green Ammonia to 11 fertiliser plants. He asserted that the Mission aims to es- tablish 5 MMT of green hydrogen pro- duction capacity, supported by 125 GW of dedicated renewable energy capacity, catalysing investments exceeding INR 8 lakh crore, creating over 6 lakh jobs, and reducing annual carbon emissions by 50 million tonnes. energetica INDIA- Jul-Aug_2026 13 ENERGY UPDATES
