The summit featured three panel discussions focusing on roof- top solar adoption, domestic solar manufacturing and battery energy storage. During the rooftop solar session, panellists said that Assam has installed approximately 644 MW of renewable energy capacity, including around 415 MW from rooftop solar. They remarked that future growth would depend on expanding installations beyond urban centres by increasing participation from local bodies, self-help groups and community institutions while im- proving consumer awareness and financing access under the PM Surya Ghar programme. The manufacturing session highlighted India’s rapidly expand- ing domestic solar industry, with panellists noting that the country has developed around 240 GW of solar manufacturing capacity. They said that policy measures such as the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) framework and Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) mandate are strength- ening domestic cell and module production while encouraging higher manufacturing standards. Speakers also highlighted incentives available under Assam’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy, including support for man- ufacturers of solar modules, batteries, wind equipment and electrolysers, along with 100 percent SGST reimbursement and capital subsidies for eligible green hydrogen projects. They said that Assam Power Distribution Company’s (APDCL) sin- gle-window clearance mechanism is expected to improve proj- ect execution timelines. The final discussion focused on battery energy storage systems, with experts emphasising that alongside technology deploy- ment, North-East India will require greater investment in skills development, research collaboration and innovation to support reliable renewable power integration. Panellists said that emerging storage technologies and region-specific solu - tions will play an increasingly important role as renewable en- ergy capacity expands across the region.
