Government to set up wind power projects worth of 8389.30 MW in the country: R.K Singh

The Government is endorsing wind power projects in whole country by providing diverse fiscal and financial incentives such as Accelerated Depreciation benefit; concessional custom duty exemption on definite components of wind electric generators.

In order to take massive leaps in the renewable energy sector, bids for setting up of wind power projects of cumulative 8389.90 MW capacity have been complete through Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and National Thermal Power Corporation, power minister R K Singh stated.

“As on date, the bids for setting up of wind power projects of cumulative 8389.90 MW capacity have been confirm through SECI and NTPC,” Singh said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

In addition aforesaid projects, bids of 500 MW each have been finalize by the states of Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

The Government has lay down a target of installing 60 GW of wind power capacity by 2022, against which 35 GW capacity has by now been installed

The Government is endorsing wind power projects in whole country by providing diverse fiscal and financial incentives such as Accelerated Depreciation benefit; concessional custom duty exemption on definite components of wind electric generators. Besides, Generation Based Incentive (GBI) is being provided to the wind projects commissioned before 31 March 2017.

In addition to these encouragement, various other initiatives have also have been taken to encourage installation of wind capacity in the country including Technical support including wind resource assessment and identification of latent sites

In order to assist inter-state sale of wind power, the inter-state transmission charges and losses have been waived off for wind and solar projects to be commissioned by March, 2022.

The government has also issued Guidelines for Tariff Based Competitive Bidding Process for procurement of Power from Grid Connected Wind Power Projects. These Guidelines aspire to facilitate the Distribution Licensees to obtain wind power at competitive rates in a cost effective manner.
