Product offerings from the stable of GEML are engineered to tackle real-world usability. Performance is delivered through calibrated motor tuning and ride dynamics suited for both city commute and load-bearing use cases, said Ram Rajappa, COO, Greaves Electric Mobility, in an interview with Energetica India.

Que: Could you walk us through the core engineering and design principles behind the Magnus Grand and Nexus?

Ans: Our products are anchored on the principle of ‘Built for Bharat’; every product that we build has been tested up to over 1 lakh kilometres across terrains. At Greaves Electric Mobility, we engineer our vehicles, which are feature-rich but at the same time, purpose-built for the diverse terrain and climatic conditions of India. Additionally, we take into consideration the varying driving patterns, start-stop traffic, and keeping our product prices competitive.

The Magnus Grand was created as a perfectly balanced scooter that delivers durability, practical features, ease of use and daily reliability. Ampere Nexus leans more toward performance and connected mobility, such as map mirroring, ride analytics, and real-time alerts. Each of these products is built with a robust dual frame chassis, advanced braking systems, and ergonomic design, keeping comfort and convenience in mind. Overall, the approach remains to integrate technology meaningfully to enhance the riding experience.

Que: What specific consumer gaps are you aiming to address with these launches?

Ans: The Indian Electric Two-Wheeler (E2W) customer of today has evolved from specs-led, early adopters to performance-based consumers. As per the Vahan data, in FY26 volumes for electric two-wheelers rose by 21 percent. Furthermore, 63 percent Indians are considering purchasing an EV within the next five years.

These are encouraging signals, where Greaves Electric Mobility is addressing reliability, total cost of ownership (TOC) and relevance for daily commute. Our product portfolio, including Reo, Nexus and Magnus for the B2C segment and swappable battery options for B2B, is designed to address key customer needs across use cases. We focus on reducing range anxiety, improving durability through LFP batteries and longer warranty cycles, and delivering the right balance of affordability and performance.

At the same time, our products are built for Indian road, weather and usage conditions, making them relevant for both urban and semi-urban customers. This helps us serve family users, last-mile delivery riders, and younger tech-savvy customers looking for a connected riding experience with Nex.io.

Que: Ampere’s LFP battery technology is a key differentiator. What advantages does it offer over conventional battery chemistries?

Ans: Transitioning to 100 percent Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery technology across the portfolio is a strategic decision centred on safety, durability and long-term value. LFP batteries offer superior thermal stability, nearly 2x lifecycles with up to 2,000 cycles versus around 1,000 cycles in Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) batteries, and lower degradation over time. This results in better durability and stronger ownership economics for the customer.

We have tested LFP battery performance from –40°C to 60°C, making it highly suitable for Indian climates. This battery also delivers higher safety assurance, critical for mass adoption. This has allowed us to provide value over the vehicle’s lifetime.

Que: With safety becoming a critical concern in EV adoption, how is GEML strengthening its safety architecture?

Ans: Safety is a key aspect of our product design and performance with a multi-layered approach. First, at the battery level, going 100 percent LFP is at the central level, as it offers higher thermal and chemistry stability, especially important for India’s diverse climatic conditions. At the vehicle level, we have integrated advanced braking systems, improved structural integrity and ergonomic design for rider comfort. Lastly, at the ecosystem level, we have strengthened supplier alignment and quality control. Our Ampere Care connectivity ensures safety in every kilometre, ensuring rider safety with safety alerts and service reminders.

This is backed by real-world validation of more than 1 lakh kilometres in extreme terrain testing and long-distance performance benchmarks.

Que: How do the new models balance performance, range, and durability for both daily commuters and delivery riders?

Ans: Product offerings from the stable of GEML are engineered to tackle real-world usability. Performance is delivered through calibrated motor tuning and ride dynamics suited for both city commute and load-bearing use cases. Range is optimised through efficient energy management and LFP battery characteristics. Durability is engineered through robust chassis design, long-life LFP batteries, and validated performance in real-world conditions.

For instance, Magnus Grand caters strongly to family commuters with its comfort and dependability, while Nexus, with its connectivity and performance credentials, appeals to both urban riders and commercial users. Importantly, both products are designed to handle high daily usage cycles.

Que: Are there plans to expand into new segments or introduce breakthrough technologies?

Ans: Greaves Electric Mobility is entering its next growth phase by expanding across both B2B and B2C segments.

On the B2B side, Ampere is targeting high-growth areas like last-mile delivery and fleet mobility with reliable, cost-efficient electric solutions.

In B2C, the brand is moving beyond commuter scooters to launch performance-oriented EVs for today’s aspirational riders.

At the core of this strategy is deep tech integration with in-house battery, motor development, and an advanced smart cluster to drive cost efficiency, performance, and innovation.
