Icon Solar modules are engineered specifically for India’s operating realities – high temperatures, dust-heavy regions, coastal humidity, and heavy rainfall zones, said Rajat Shrivastava, General Manager – Marketing, Icon Solar-En Power Technologies Pvt. Ltd., in an interview with Energetica India.

Que: Icon Solar has expanded rapidly in a highly competitive domestic manufacturing landscape. What have been the key drivers behind your scale-up to 2.6 GW?

Ans: Icon Solar was founded with a clear focus on strengthening India’s domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem. Over the years, we have evolved from being primarily a module supplier into an integrated manufacturer serving rooftop, utility-scale, and agricultural solar projects across the country.

Despite supply-chain challenges and an intense monsoon season, we successfully scaled our manufacturing capacity to 2.6 GW during 2025–26. This growth was driven by automation, disciplined execution, and strong collaboration with EPCs and developers, enabling us to expand rapidly while maintaining delivery reliability.

Que: Given India’s challenging operating environments, how are your modules engineered to ensure long-term performance and reliability?

Ans: Icon Solar modules are engineered specifically for India’s operating realities – high temperatures, dust-heavy regions, coastal humidity, and heavy rainfall zones.

Our focus remains on stable energy yield, mechanical robustness, and predictable long-term performance, ensuring reliable output across utility-scale plants, agricultural installations, and rooftop systems.

Que: With technology cycles evolving rapidly, how is Icon Solar positioning its product portfolio in terms of cell architecture, efficiency benchmarks, and real-world performance metrics?

Ans: Icon Solar manufactures Mono PERC and advanced high-efficiency crystalline silicon modules, selected for their performance consistency under Indian conditions. Our products offer low annual degradation, strong low-light performance, and favourable temperature coefficients, supporting higher lifetime energy generation even in extreme heat and variable weather.

Que: Government schemes such as PM Surya Ghar Yojana and PM-KUSUM are reshaping demand dynamics. How is Icon Solar aligning its product offerings to support these programmes at scale?

Ans: Icon Solar is closely aligned with flagship government programmes such as PM Surya Ghar and PM-KUSUM through ALMM-listed, BIS-compliant modules and high-volume execution capability.

We recently supported the commissioning of 45,911 solar pumps in a single month under MSEDCL, demonstrating our ability to deliver at scale while meeting scheme-driven timelines.

Que: How has Icon Solar strengthened its quality assurance and compliance frameworks to enhance long-term reliability and meet evolving industry standards?

Ans: Quality is embedded at every stage of our operations—from cell sourcing to final dispatch. Our processes include incoming material checks, in-line inspections, EL and flash testing, and batch-wise validation. All Icon Solar modules comply with IEC standards, BIS certification, and ALMM requirements, aligned with international testing and performance benchmarks.

Que: As pricing pressure intensifies across the value chain, how does Icon Solar balance customisation requirements with scale efficiencies and cost competitiveness?

Ans: We operate on standardised, high-volume manufacturing platforms to achieve economies of scale, while offering application-specific configurations where required. This approach enables us to remain cost-competitive while effectively serving rooftop, utility, and agricultural segments without compromising on quality or reliability.

Que: Looking ahead, how does Icon Solar view the future of India’s solar manufacturing ecosystem, and what role does the company aim to play in strengthening India’s domestic manufacturing?

Ans: Icon Solar’s long-term vision is to support India’s energy transition through responsible capacity expansion, advanced technology adoption, and deeper localisation. Building on our 2.6 GW manufacturing base, we aim to reduce import dependence and strengthen India’s position as a globally competitive solar manufacturing hub.
