Scaling production while ensuring quality and fostering innovation is a core focus for Neuron Energy, said Pratik Kamdar, Co-founder & CEO, Neuron Energy, in an interview with Abha Rustagi, Associate Editor, Energetica India.

Que: What trends are you seeing in customer demand for smart, high-reliability battery solutions amid India’s rapidly expanding EV market?

Ans: We are witnessing a significant change in customer expectations regarding smart and highly reliable battery solutions. The demand for electric vehicle (EV) batteries in the country is projected to increase from approximately 17.7 GWh in 2025 to 256.3 GWh by 2032, reflecting both individual consumer and fleet adoption. Customers are increasingly prioritising consistent performance, long lifecycle, and safety, alongside features such as real-time monitoring, predictive diagnostics, and faster charging capabilities.

There is also a growing emphasis on sustainability, with recyclable and environmentally responsible battery solutions gaining popularity. Overall, decision-making is shifting from cost-driven choices to value-driven ones, where reliability, intelligence, and total lifecycle performance are key differentiators. Advanced chemistries such as lithium-ion and lithium iron phosphate (LFP) are being adopted more frequently to meet these evolving expectations.

Que: Your smart battery management systems offer remote diagnostics and support. How has this feature impacted reliability and customer service across your deployments?

Ans: Our Smart Battery Management System (BMS) with remote diagnostics has significantly enhanced both reliability and customer service. By providing real-time monitoring, predictive alerts, and performance insights, it allows us to identify potential issues before they impact operations. This proactive approach reduces downtime, optimises maintenance, and ensures consistent battery performance across deployments. Customers benefit from faster support, improved operational efficiency, and greater confidence in the safety and longevity of Neuron’s battery solutions.

Que: Neuron recently closed a Pre-Series B round of INR 31 crore. Could you elaborate on this?

Ans: Neuron Energy’s successful Pre-Series B funding round, raising INR 31 crore, represents a pivotal step in scaling our operations and reinforcing our leadership in India’s EV battery sector. The round was led by Equanimity Ventures, Rajiv Dadlani Group, Thackersay Family Office, Chona Family Office, and other reputed Family Offices and HNI investors, reflecting strong confidence in our technology, business model, and long-term vision. The capital will be deployed to expand our manufacturing capacity to 3 GWh and build a fully automated, state-of-the-art battery facility at Chakan, Pune, catering to electric four-wheelers and buses.

Alongside increasing production, the investment will bolster our R&D capabilities, accelerate domestic growth, and support international expansion. With a low-CapEx, low-OpEx business model and profitable year-on-year growth, Neuron is positioned to deliver high-performance, smart batteries at scale. This funding not only strengthens our operational capabilities but also underscores our commitment to driving India’s sustainable mobility transition and serving as a trusted partner to OEMs across the EV ecosystem.

Que: With plans to set up fully automated facilities for electric four-wheelers and buses at Pune, how do you balance production scale with quality and innovation?

Ans: Scaling production while ensuring quality and fostering innovation is a core focus for Neuron Energy as we set up fully automated facilities for electric four-wheelers and buses at Chakan, Pune. Automation allows us to achieve high manufacturing throughput without compromising on precision or consistency, while integrated quality checks and rigorous testing ensure every battery meets the highest safety and performance standards.

Simultaneously, our R&D teams work closely with production to embed innovation into both design and process, from smart battery management systems to energy-efficient manufacturing techniques. This synergy between technology, innovation, and automation enables us to produce large volumes of reliable, high-performance batteries while continuously improving product features and operational efficiency. Ultimately, this approach ensures that as we expand capacity, we maintain the trust of OEMs, deliver superior battery solutions, and support India’s transition toward sustainable and technologically advanced mobility.

Que: You’ve launched Gen 2 lithium-ion battery packs designed for Indian conditions. What key engineering improvements were made over the previous generation?

Ans: Neuron Energy’s Gen 2 lithium-ion battery packs have been engineered specifically to meet the challenges of Indian road and climate conditions. Compared to the previous generation, these packs feature a redesigned architecture that enhances heat dissipation and ensures compatibility across a wider range of two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and light commercial vehicles. Durability has been significantly enhanced through reinforced structural integrity, while advanced vibration protection ensures stable performance even on India’s rough terrains.

The inclusion of an upgraded Smart Battery Management System (BMS) and improved cell balancing extends battery life, reduces maintenance requirements, and delivers consistent performance over time. Beyond technical improvements, the Gen 2 packs emphasise safety, reliability, and scalability, reflecting Neuron’s commitment to high-performance EV solutions. These engineering advancements not only optimise operational efficiency for fleet and commercial users but also strengthen the trust of OEMs and individual customers in India’s growing EV ecosystem.

Que: You have partnered with OEMs like Hexall Motors and others for custom battery solutions. What role do these partnerships play in the company’s growth?

Ans: Partnerships with OEMs like Hexall Motors play a pivotal role in Neuron Energy’s growth strategy by enabling the development of custom battery solutions tailored to innovative vehicle designs. For example, our collaboration with Hexall involves supplying 1,000 custom battery packs for their patented L5 category vehicle with a double front wheel—the first of its kind in the world and approved by ARAI. Beyond the expected annual revenue of INR 20 crore, these partnerships help us innovate alongside our customers, solving real-world challenges in performance, safety, and reliability. Working closely with OEMs also gives us insights into evolving industry needs, enabling us to design smarter, more adaptable battery solutions. Ultimately, these collaborations strengthen Neuron’s presence in the EV ecosystem, support our mission to deliver high-quality, dependable batteries, and allow us to contribute meaningfully to India’s shift toward next-generation and future-ready mobility.

Que: With India’s push for EV charging infrastructure and clean energy, how do you see the company enabling broader ecosystem integration between batteries and charging networks?

Ans: As India rapidly expands its EV charging infrastructure and advances clean energy adoption, Neuron Energy is focused on enabling seamless integration between batteries and charging networks. Our battery solutions are designed with intelligent systems that support real-time communication, optimised charging, and predictive energy management, ensuring efficient interaction with public and private charging stations. By collaborating closely with OEMs, fleet operators, and energy providers, we aim to align battery performance with grid capabilities, reduce charging times, and enhance overall reliability.

Additionally, our solutions are built to support scalable deployment across two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and light commercial vehicles, contributing to a cohesive, technology-driven ecosystem. This approach also positions our energy storage platforms for applications beyond mobility, where energy storage, grid responsiveness, and system-level integration are becoming increasingly important. Through these efforts, Neuron Energy not only delivers high-performance batteries but also facilitates the adoption of a sustainable and interconnected EV infrastructure, enabling smoother operations for fleet operators and individual users while supporting India’s clean mobility goals.
