Director at Alishan Green Energy
Alishan Green Energy Targets 10 GW Encapsulant Capacity, Says Director Nikhil Agrawal
December 08, 2025. By News Bureau
Que: What R&D is planned for improving efficiency or reducing cost in your encapsulants/backsheets?
Ans: The industry is shifting from P-type to N-type cells like TOPCon and HJT because of their higher efficiency and lower degradation. But with these benefits come new challenges. N-type cells are more sensitive to UV stress and moisture, and they require encapsulants that offer stronger barriers and stability.
Alishan EPE-NT was developed specifically for this need. It blends the processability of EVA with the moisture barrier and electrical properties of POE, ensuring higher reliability for bifacial and glass-glass modules. With N-type adoption accelerating, materials built for the future are no longer optional; they are essential.
On the other hand, UV Induced Degradation (UVID) is a silent threat to advanced cell technologies. In TOPCon and HJT, ultra-thin passivation layers like silicon oxide and polysilicon can degrade under UV exposure. This creates defects at the interface, reducing power output over time.
Encapsulants play a critical role in protecting against UVID. Alishan EPE-DC uses UV down-conversion technology to transform harmful UV into visible light while shielding sensitive layers. This not only protects cells but also boosts module performance
Que: What has Alishan Green Energy showcased at REI Expo this year?
Ans: For solar modules to last in India, they need materials that can handle every kind of weather, from the humidity of coastal regions to the extreme heat of deserts.
At Alishan Green Energy, we have expanded our encapsulant capacity to 6.6 GW with a vision to reach 10 GW backed by our 3 GW backsheet capacity. This year, we have launched three new products, each developed to critically tackle the ongoing issues of UVID and moisture ingress in the latest technologies. Alishan low acid EVA, Alishan EPE-NT and Alishan EPE-DC are new age encapsulants which we have showcased at REI along with their special features and unique testing that we have adopted.
Every product we launch is developed, tested, and manufactured in India, aligned with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision. Our mission is to provide quality products and serve the solar industry in India.
Que: Is Alishan exploring vertical integration, for instance, moving into module manufacturing, cell technology, or BOS components?
Ans: Yes, we are mulling over the possibilities to expand into other verticals that suit our expertise and demand in India. We will announce the progress soon.
Que: What kind of investment is being planned to support your upcoming expansion phases? Are there any partnerships or joint ventures involved?
Ans: As we mentioned, 10 GW is our independent expansion plan, and we have expanded to 6.6 GW. On the other hand, we are happy that we are being considered as partners by many Tier 1 Manufacturers to support their vertical integration by joint ventures and strategic partnerships. We are in talks with two major module manufacturers of India, and we are certain that soon we will be able to share more information.
