Solar to BESS: Reliability Begins with Advanced Sealants, Explains Manish Gupta, Fasto Adhesive

Que: Fasto Adhesives has a strong presence across diverse sectors, from automotive to industrial machinery. How has the renewable energy segment emerged as a focus area for the company in recent years?
Ans: At Fasto, we view adhesives not merely as chemicals, but as critical components of technology. Over the past three to four years, as India’s renewable energy sector began its exponential surge, we recognised a vital gap: the industry didn't just need glue; it needed a reliable engineered adhesive.
Solar panels and renewable infrastructure are long-term assets, battling extreme weather for decades. We aligned our strategy to become the ‘reliability backbone’ for this sector.
Currently, we serve over eight major industries, and now we have intensified our efforts because we saw the opportunity to support the nation’s infrastructure with customised, technology-driven solutions.
By treating every adhesive as a structural and functional part of the final equipment, whether a solar module or a wind turbine, we have successfully positioned Fasto as a strategic partner for India’s leading renewable OEMs, rather than just a vendor. This shift was driven by our commitment to being an integral part of India's green energy transition.
Que: Can you elaborate on the specific adhesive and sealant solutions Fasto offers for solar applications and how they enhance panel performance, reliability and longevity?
Ans: In the solar industry, performance is measured in decades, not days. Fasto’s Solar Silicon Sealants (such as our Fasto SM & SP, S, etc., series) are formulated to be the silent guardians of solar modules.
Our sealants are designed to withstand the harshest environmental stressors. They undergo rigorous testing for Damp Heat and Humidity Freeze, ensuring that the module’s structural integrity remains uncompromised even in extreme climates. But beyond durability, we focus on process efficiency for our customers.
For instance, as solar manufacturing technology has evolved, production cycle times have dropped dramatically. Where applying sealants once took 40 seconds, modern high-speed lines now demand it in just 15 seconds. Fasto responded by engineering advanced formulations that match these rapid curing cycles without sacrificing bond strength.
Our sealants are compatible with the latest dual-nozzle and multi-nozzle dispensing systems, ensuring seamless integration into automated lines. By preventing moisture ingress and ensuring zero-defect bonding, our solutions directly contribute to the ‘25-year performance promise’ that module manufacturers make to their customers.
Que: With India’s rapid growth in solar manufacturing, how is Fasto aligning its R&D and product portfolio to meet the evolving technical standards and environmental demands of this sector?
Ans: Speed and precision are the new currencies of solar manufacturing. To align with this, Fasto has adopted a unique backward integration strategy. We don't just develop the adhesive; we design the entire dispensing ecosystem.
We collaborate with global machine manufacturers to develop robotic dispensing systems that are perfectly tuned to our adhesive formulations. This allows us to offer an end-to-end solution – from the chemical molecule to the dispensing nozzle.
On the R&D front, our ‘Make in India’ commitment is backed by global standards. Our in-house facilities are equipped to simulate decades of environmental stress, and we validate our products with international testing bodies like TÜV, UL, IEC, and Intertek. As module technologies shift towards higher efficiency structures (like TOPCon and Bifacial), our R&D team is already ahead of the curve, developing formulations that manage the thermal stress and bonding requirements of next-generation glass and frame materials. We don't just follow standards; we help our partners set them.
Que: Adhesives are extensively used in the assembly of battery packs, such as lithium-ion and solid-state batteries. And, in recent times, many Indian players are foraying into Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) manufacturing. How do you plan to tap into th
Ans: The BESS sector demands what Fasto does best: Thermal Management and Structural Safety. Just as we revolutionised bonding for solar, we are applying our ‘technological product’ philosophy to battery storage.
In battery packs, adhesives are the first line of defence against vibration and heat buildup. Leveraging our extensive experience in the automotive and BLDC motor sectors, we are developing specialised adhesive solutions for BESS that offer superior thermal conductivity and flame retardancy. Our R&D is focused on formulations that can dissipate heat effectively while maintaining a strong structural bond, which is critical for the safety and longevity of Lithium-ion packs.
We are actively engaging with emerging BESS manufacturers to create customised products
that fit their specific cell chemistries and pack designs. Our goal is to be the ‘tech-inside’ partner for BESS, ensuring that as India stores energy, it does so safely and efficiently with Fasto solutions.
Que: What are Fasto’s future plans for the next 5 years to strengthen its footprint in the renewable energy sector?
Ans: Our vision is aggressive and rooted in capacity building. We are currently in the process of doubling our manufacturing capacity from 11,000 tonnes to 20,000 tonnes per annum. This expansion is critical to meeting the exploding demand from the solar and storage sectors.
Furthermore, we have finalised a new Capex plan for FY26 with an investment of USD 2-2.5 million to further upgrade our technology and infrastructure. Over the next five years, Fasto aims to deepen its global footprint, taking ‘Indian Engineering’ to the world. We will continue to invest heavily in backward integration – producing our own raw materials and dispensing tech, to control quality and cost. Ultimately, we aim to be the default ‘reliability partner’ for every major renewable energy player in India and beyond, driving the industry forward with innovation and trust.
