ZF Wind Power, a division of global technology company ZF, has inaugurated a 13.2 MW test rig in Coimbatore, the largest of its kind in India, to accelerate the development and validation of next-generation gearboxes and powertrains for wind turbines.

Designed to simulate dynamic load conditions, the test rig enables comprehensive testing under real-world torque reversal cycles, ensuring durability and performance under demanding field conditions.

The new test rig enhances ZF’s ability to meet the rising demand for efficient wind turbine components while strengthening its position as a key system partner in the renewable energy transition. “This milestone is essential for securing approvals from customers, insurers, and certification agencies to bring new designs to market,” the company said.

ZF Wind Power CEO Felix Henseler emphasised the rig’s role in supporting India’s wind energy ambitions, stating, “Together with our partners, we are addressing every challenge across the lifecycle of new products.”

He further added, “ZF Group is investing in India to offer complete solutions-from research and development to testing and validation-for both global and local needs. In the next phase, we will establish a cold chamber test facility, enabling our India plant to deliver comprehensive end-to-end solutions for both global and Indian markets.”

Akash Passey, President of ZF Group India, added, “This investment aligns with our strategy to offer end-to-end solutions, from R&D to validation, while supporting global and Indian renewable energy goals."

ZF Wind Power has already delivered close to 60 GW of wind gearbox capacity from its Coimbatore facility for both domestic and international markets.
