Today, more than 150 countries will came together for World Environment Day 2025, focusing on the theme Putting an End to Plastic Pollution. This year, South Korea is hosting the event, with Jeju Province leading the way in its goal to eliminate plastic by 2040.
The event, supported by the UNEP's #BeatPlasticPollution campaign, is calling for immediate action to address a major global problem. Plastic waste affects everything from clogged drains to harm to marine life. It’s not just a matter of health and biodiversity; it also ties into energy and climate issues.
Here’s what clean energy leaders are saying as they take action towards a cleaner and greener planet:
Sundeep Gupta, Vice Chairman, Jakson Group, says, "On World Environment Day, we affirm that sustainability is not just a decision, but a global imperative. The alarming 83 percent surge in climate-related disasters over the last two decades, with the energy sector contributing over 75 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, underscores the urgency. Jakson Group is at the forefront of this transformation. We are not just stakeholders, but drivers of change, leveraging state-of-the-art solar production, EPC services, advanced battery energy storage, and climate-resilient infrastructure. The future is undeniably green: renewable power is projected to supply 50 percent of global electricity by 2030, a shift critically supported by energy storage, set to grow 15-fold this decade. Our commitment extends beyond technology; it's deeply human. We are building a workforce empowered to innovate and service the green energy sector, knowing that ESG-strong companies enjoy 25 percent greater profitability."
Tanmoy Duari, CEO, AXITEC Energy India Pvt. Ltd., adds, “At AXITEC, we recognise that the fight against climate change is not a distant challenge but an immediate responsibility. As a leader in solar energy, we are committed to harnessing the sun's abundant power to provide clean, sustainable solutions that reduce our carbon footprint and promote environmental stewardship. We believe that by working together with governments, businesses, and individuals, we can create a future where clean energy powers our homes, industries, and communities, ensuring a healthier planet for generations to come.”
Vasudha Madavan, Founder and CEO at Ostara Advisors, emphasised, "On this World Environment Day, we reaffirm our commitment to driving sustainable change by supporting innovative climate-tech companies. Our mission is to connect visionary entrepreneurs with the capital they need to build a greener, cleaner future for India and beyond, helping accelerate the journey to net zero. Together, through collaboration and conscious investment, we can speed up the transition to a low-carbon economy and create lasting environmental impact. Let’s use this day to inspire action and embrace sustainability in small day-to-day choices we make in our lives."
Prashant Singh, CEO and Co-Founder at Blue Planet Environmental Solutions, comments, "This Environment Day, it is an excellent opportunity for us to make a difference, whether it is about plastic pollution or other waste. We at Blue Planet take pride in solving this problem by leveraging technology and deploying scalable solutions. From landfill biomining, and fresh waste plastic upcycling, to raising awareness among youth, we believe that together we can make a more powerful and tangible impact. Blue Planet looks forward to working with key stakeholders to deliver meaningful outcomes and drive positive change."
D.V. Manjunatha, Founder and Managing Director, Emmvee, says, "This World Environment Day, as the global focus turns toward land restoration and building resilience against desertification and drought, we are reminded that clean energy is not just about reducing emissions; it’s about restoring balance. At Emmvee, our commitment to solar innovation is rooted in the belief that renewable energy can empower communities, revive degraded landscapes, and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come. By accelerating the adoption of solar power, we’re not only reducing our dependence on fossil fuels but also supporting climate-smart agriculture and water conservation, both critical to preserving our planet’s most vital resources."
Rajesh Gupta, Founder and Director of Recyclekaro, states, “On this World Environment Day, let’s remember that sustainability is no longer a choice—it’s a responsibility we owe to the planet, to future generations, and to ourselves. The era of unchecked consumption is behind us. Today, the question is not whether we need to change, but how urgently and how collectively we act. The real shift begins when we stop viewing sustainability as a siloed domain of experts and policymakers, and start recognising it as a shared commitment; embedded in every household, every industry, and every decision we make. It’s time to move from linear thinking, where we extract, use, and discard, to circular solutions that regenerate value and resources at every stage. From how we manufacture products to how we recycle old devices, from minimising waste to maximising reuse each step we take contributes to a larger ripple effect. In the circular economy, waste isn’t the end; it’s the beginning of something new."
Miniya Chatterji, CEO, Sustain Labs Paris, adds, "Plastic pollution is one of the most visible and urgent symptoms of a deeper systems failure — in how we produce, consume, and educate. Solving it requires more than just bans or cleanup campaigns; it calls for a shift in mindsets, policies, and skills. At Sustain Labs Paris, we believe climate leadership begins in the classroom — from building climate schools to supporting executive education that empowers professionals to take bold, science-led decisions. And we never do it alone. Whether launching new technologies or climate education programmes, we work in partnership with institutions that have a shared stake in shaping the future. For us and our partners, every day is World Environment Day — because systemic change doesn’t wait for a calendar date."
Shankar Rajaram, Area Sales Director - Industry, INDO Region, Grundfos, comments, "As industries evolve, sustainability must lead the way. At Grundfos, we believe that the future of manufacturing is defined not just by efficiency but by responsibility—reducing resource consumption, minimising emissions, and preserving the planet for generations to come. Water and energy are the lifeblood of industry, yet their overuse puts immense strain on our environment. It is time for a shift—from consumption to conservation, from waste to reuse, and from outdated methods to innovative, sustainable solutions. Our intelligent solutions help industries optimise energy and water use, ensuring that every drop and every watt counts. By integrating smarter technologies, we empower businesses to achieve their production goals while reducing their environmental footprint. The path to sustainability is not just a choice—it is imperative."
Gyanesh Chaudhary, Chairman and Managing Director, Vikram Solar, remarks, "Energy is the engine of human progress, and today, it must also become the foundation of environmental restoration. On World Environment Day 2025, we must confront the fact that business-as-usual is no longer viable. The challenge before us is not just technological, but deeply systemic. We need an energy transition that is swift and scalable, but also just, inclusive, and durable. Future-proof energy systems must be designed to minimise environmental impact while maximising human potential. This means planning for resilience, designing with nature in mind, and putting people, especially vulnerable communities, at the heart of the transition. The opportunity before us is historic: to redefine growth in terms of harmony, not exploitation. The choices we make today will determine whether we inherit a livable planet or leave behind a legacy of missed chances."
Nehal Gupta, Founder and MD, Accelerated Money For U, comments, "On this World Environment Day, the message is louder than ever — we must act decisively to end plastic pollution. This crisis isn’t just environmental; it’s deeply human, impacting our land, oceans, and even the air we breathe. While awareness has grown, now is the time for bold, measurable action. Industries today are adopting sustainable materials, circular design, and the phase-out of single-use plastics, but a united front is necessary for true effect. A common goal must motivate individuals, corporations, and policymakers to collaborate. The world we leave behind is shaped by every decision we make about what to create, support, or abandon. Let's create a future in which advancement does not come at the expense of the environment."
Samkit Shah, Co-Founder of Jitendra New EV Tech, states, "This World Environment Day, we reaffirm our commitment to building a greener future through sustainable mobility. At Jitendra New EV Tech, we believe every electric ride is a promise of cleaner air and a healthier planet. We were proud to participate in the environmental awareness campaign held in Nashik, organized by Multipurpose Forum Trust and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, joining hands with the community to spread the message of eco-conscious living. The journey to sustainability begins with awareness—and we’re honored to be part of the movement."
Many companies are now putting money into biodegradable options, solar-powered recycling tech, and greener supply chains to help create a cleaner, more sustainable economy.
