In a significant boost to its renewable energy ambitions, the West Bengal Cabinet has approved the setting up of a 100 MW solar power plant in Goaltore, located in the Paschim Medinipore district.

The announcement was made by the state’s Irrigation Minister, Manas Bhunia. on Wednesday. As per reports, the INR 680 crore project will be implemented through a public-private partnership model.

The West Bengal government will contribute 30 percent of the total cost, amounting to INR 205 crore, while the remaining INR 475 crore will be invested by a German firm. This highlights the growing international interest in India’s green energy sector and the state's commitment to sustainable development.

This initiative is expected to significantly enhance West Bengal’s renewable energy capacity and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. The Goaltore plant will also provide an economic boost to the region through job creation and improved infrastructure.
