WattPower has unveiled its 506KTL grid-forming utility-scale solar inverter at the Renewable Energy India (REI) Expo 2026, introducing a technology designed to improve grid stability, reduce system costs and support the integration of large-scale solar power into weak electricity networks.
The inverter was launched at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida. The company said that the new-generation product combines grid-forming capabilities, artificial intelligence-based monitoring and enhanced equipment protection to support the operation of utility-scale solar power plants under varying grid conditions.
The 506KTL is designed to address the challenges associated with increasing renewable energy integration, including grid disturbances, weak-grid conditions and evolving technical requirements. Its grid-forming architecture incorporates virtual inertia support and power oscillation damping, which are intended to help maintain grid stability and improve the performance of solar installations.
As renewable energy capacity expands, grid operators and project developers face growing requirements to maintain reliable electricity supply despite fluctuations in generation and changes in grid conditions. WattPower said that the inverter's capabilities could help developers manage these challenges, reduce the risk of solar power curtailment and improve the long-term operational performance of projects.
The inverter supports 1,000-volt AC and 1,600-volt DC configurations. According to the company, its design delivers 40 percent higher power density, potentially reducing the number of inverters required for a project and lowering balance-of-system costs. The reduction in equipment requirements could also help bring down operating expenses over the project lifecycle while supporting higher energy generation.
WattPower's 506KTL also incorporates several grid-support functions, including black start capability and operation under low short-circuit ratio (SCR) conditions. The black start function is designed to supply AC power during plant commissioning, potentially reducing dependence on diesel generators during construction and testing.
The inverter's low-SCR operating capability is intended to support stable operation in electricity networks with lower fault levels, where integrating renewable energy can present additional technical challenges. Its night-time reactive power recovery function automatically resets the AC-side relay after a nighttime grid outage, enabling the inverter to resume supplying reactive power when the grid is restored.
The product also features AI-enabled monitoring for real-time plant performance assessment and fault prediction. WattPower said the system is designed to help identify potential issues and optimise plant operations. Hybrid cooling and an anti-icing fan are intended to support thermal management and operation across different climatic conditions, while the company's SSLD2 protection technology is designed to improve equipment safety and operational reliability.
Commenting on the launch, Divya Prakash Choraria, CEO and co-founder of WattPower, said that the response on the opening day of REI Expo reflected the renewable energy sector's growing focus on grid stability alongside generation capacity.
Choraria said that grid-forming technology would play an important role as renewable energy integration increases, helping support grid stability and optimise asset performance over the long term.
The launch adds to WattPower's utility-scale solar technology portfolio as developers increasingly seek equipment capable of meeting grid requirements while improving project economics and operational reliability.
