Waaree Group has secured a 10 MWh Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) order from an infrastructure development company, with the system slated for deployment in Tamil Nadu.

The win marks a significant addition to Waaree’s growing presence in India’s emerging energy storage market and supports the company’s broader capabilities across the clean energy value chain. The group is expanding domestic storage manufacturing through a 4 GWh cell production line and a 5 GWh battery pack-and-container facility aimed at utility-scale and commercial applications.

The company said that the order aligns with the increasing demand for storage as India accelerates solar capacity additions and grid integration efforts. Battery systems are expected to play a critical role in ensuring round-the-clock renewable power, strengthening grid stability, supporting EV charging infrastructure and enhancing long-term energy security.

Tamil Nadu, which has more than 20 GW of wind and solar capacity, is among the states pushing for faster storage deployment. It recently floated a 1.5 GWh standalone BESS tender, signalling rising market readiness.

Nationally, storage requirements are projected to scale sharply in the late 2020s and early 2030s, according to estimates from NEP, MNRE and CEA, with significant capacity additions expected from FY 2026–27 onward.

Commenting on the development, Ankit Doshi, President–Strategy at Waaree Group, said that the order underscores confidence in the company’s integrated manufacturing and technological capabilities. “Storage is the next frontier for renewable power, and we are investing deeply in technology, design and manufacturing to meet the nation’s growing demand for flexible, dispatchable energy,” he said.
