Following recent announcements about changes to its original solar manufacturing plans, Waaree Energies’ top management has clarified that the company is not entirely pulling out of its projects in Odisha.
“In light of the board resolution passed yesterday, Waaree Energies Ltd. has undertaken a strategic realignment of certain components of our planned 6 GW integrated solar manufacturing capacity across multiple geographies,” said Dr. Amit Paithankar, CEO and Whole-time Director, Waaree Energies.
The company’s Board in a meeting held on June 20, 2025 approved the change of location. As per the revised plan, a 3 GW module plant will be set up at Samakhiali, Gujarat and another 3 GW module plant will be set up in Gujarat or Tamil Nadu or any other location to be finalised later. A 6 GW solar cells plant will be established at Unn, Gujarat. A 6 GW ingots and wafers plant will be set up at Nagpur, Maharashtra.
“This decision is aimed at accelerating project momentum, optimising resource utilisation, and ensuring timely execution in line with our IPO objectives,” stated Paithankar.
He further emphasised that the company is not moving away from Odisha. “Construction activities are actively ongoing, and contracts for the Odisha facility have been duly awarded and are being executed as planned. Our commitment to Odisha remains strong. We continue to recognise the immense potential of the state and are grateful for the proactive support extended by the Odisha government,” he said.
He further added, “Odisha continues to hold a significant and strategic place in our long-term business roadmap, and we are actively exploring meaningful avenues for collaboration that advance both state and national renewable energy goals. These adjustments reflect our operational agility and ongoing efforts to position Waaree Energies for sustainable growth while keeping Odisha as an important and integral part of our future plans.”
