V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port), Tuticorin, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth INR 5,000 crore with CGS Energy to develop a 300 tonnes-per-day (TPD) green ammonia production facility.

The agreement was formalised in the presence of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal during the India Maritime Week 2025, the company shared in a social media post.

The partnership represents a significant step toward advancing India’s clean energy transition and creating sustainable, future-ready port infrastructure. Under the MoU, the two entities will collaborate on developing clean energy solutions, enhancing logistics efficiency, and supporting green port initiatives in line with India’s net-zero and maritime growth vision.

With its natural deep-water harbour, strong multimodal connectivity, and expanding trade capacity, VOC Port offers a strategic advantage for hosting such a large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia project. The initiative reinforces the port’s commitment to digitalisation, sustainability, and smart infrastructure.

This collaboration underscores the growing synergy between maritime development and renewable energy innovation, paving the way for a decarbonised, technology-driven, and resilient port ecosystem in India.
