Vikram Solar has appointed Arun Mittal as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of VSL Powerhive, its wholly owned subsidiary, established to meet India’s growing demand for energy storage systems and solutions.

As energy storage becomes central to grid stability, peak management, and round-the-clock renewable power, VSL Powerhive will play a pivotal role in anchoring the company’s ambition toward an integrated energy transition solutions company.

With the commissioning of the new 5 GW facility, Vikram Solar’s module capacity has more than doubled from 4.5 GW to 9.5 GW. The company is now executing the next leg of its growth plan with a further 6 GW module expansion underway, set to raise total capacity to 15.5 GW. This is complemented by a 12 GW solar cell capacity currently being executed for commissioning in FY27, reflecting the company’s commitment to deepening backward integration and strengthening India’s solar manufacturing ecosystem.

Gyanesh Chaudhary, Chairman and Managing Director, Vikram Solar, said, “Battery energy storage is the backbone of the next phase of the global clean energy transition, and its importance in ensuring reliability and grid stability cannot be overstated. As we expand our vision for a sustainable future, BESS innovation will play a pivotal role in delivering resilient, efficient, and scalable energy solutions for the world. Arun’s leadership will accelerate our ambition to create world-class battery capabilities and build a strong, future-ready energy storage ecosystem.”

Mittal brings over three decades of experience across battery manufacturing, energy storage design, and strategic business transformation. Most recently, as Managing Director (MD) and CEO (India) at Lohum Cleantech, he strengthened India operations and advanced cutting-edge models in battery recycling and circular-economy frameworks. Prior to this, he served as MD and CEO, Exide Energy Solution, where he played a central role in defining Exide’s lithium-ion mobility storage manufacturing blueprint.

His 31-year tenure at Exide Industries, where he rose from Management Trainee to Executive Director of the Automotive and Industrial Divisions, was marked by innovation, market expansion and capability building. He is also a member of ICAI, ICSI and ICMAI.

Speaking on his appointment, he said, “Energy systems are rapidly becoming more decentralised and storage-driven. Vikram Solar’s ambition to lead India’s storage solutions landscape will significantly strengthen the value we deliver to our customers. At VSL Powerhive, we are firming up our plans to build scalable solutions that accelerate the energy transition journey which India has committed to.”
