Vedanta Power records to have 56 percent of its workforce below the age of 35, the company claims to see young professionals as a critical part of building the capabilities required for a rapidly evolving power industry. The company’s approach combines campus hiring, structured learning, leadership guidance, cross-functional development and opportunities for early ownership to gain exposure to real-world operations and develop the capabilities needed to contribute meaningfully to India’s growth story.
As part of this strategy, the company has recently onboarded 54 campus hires, of whom 57 percent are women, bringing fresh talent and diverse perspectives into the power sector. The young professionals, from institutes across India, represent a range of domains including engineering, technical functions, human resources, communications, finance, commercial, ESG and CSR. Campus recruitment continues to be an important channel for bringing emerging skills and new perspectives into the organisation.
As part of this approach, Vedanta Power conducted AAROHAN – The Rise of Power, its first 4 day long structured induction programme for young professionals joining the organisation. The programme brought together new employees through leadership interactions, business sessions, functional learning and operational exposure, while providing them with a broader understanding of the organisation and the power sector.
The programme featured interactions with senior leadership and department heads, giving participants an understanding of Vedanta Power’s businesses, functions and organisational priorities. With participants from diverse domains such as engineering, technical functions, HR, communications, finance, commercial, ESG and CSR, the programme also provided an opportunity for young professionals to gain a broader understanding of the interconnected functions that support Vedanta Power’s operations. The sessions also included an immersive plant visit, enabling participants to connect their learning with real-world operations and gain firsthand exposure to the processes, technologies and people supporting large-scale power generation.
Speaking about the programme, Rajinder Singh Ahuja, Chief Executive Officer, Vedanta Power, said, “India’s power growth story is entering a new phase. We are not only going to need more power, but people who can operate complex assets, adopt new technologies, improve efficiency and respond to an increasingly dynamic energy landscape. At Vedanta, building capacity and building capability go hand in hand. Our young professionals will be an important part of that journey. We want to give them exposure to the business, access to experienced leaders and the opportunity to take ownership early, so they can grow into the power leaders who will shape the next chapter of India’s power sector.”
Through leadership engagement, structured learning and exposure to business operations, Vedanta Power seeks to help young employees build confidence, broaden their understanding and take greater ownership from the early stages of their careers.
