Vedanta Aluminium has been ranked among the Top 10 percent of global companies in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook 2026, backed by a Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) score of 84 out of 100. The recognition marks the company’s first entry into the Top 10 percent category in the global aluminium sector.
The Sustainability Yearbook is based on S&P Global’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment, a global benchmarking exercise that evaluates companies on a range of environmental, social and governance (ESG) parameters, including climate strategy, transparency, risk management and responsible business practices.
According to the assessment, over 9,200 companies across 59 industries were evaluated during the cycle, with 848 companies qualifying as Yearbook Members. Only a select group achieving superior sustainability performance relative to peers is placed in the Top 10 percent category.
The latest recognition follows Vedanta Aluminium securing second place globally in the S&P Global CSA 2025, a ranking it has maintained for three consecutive years in the aluminium industry.
Commenting on the achievement, Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said that the recognition highlights the company’s focus on integrating sustainability into its long-term growth strategy.
“Sustainability remains central to how we innovate, operate and create value for stakeholders. This recognition reinforces our commitment to responsible production and continuous improvement,” he said.
The company has implemented several initiatives aimed at strengthening its environmental performance. Since FY21, it has reduced greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 8.96 percent, bringing emissions down to 17.01 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent per tonne of aluminium while expanding production.
In FY25, the company consumed 1.57 billion units of renewable energy and plans to scale its renewable capacity to 1,500 MW by 2030 as part of its Net Zero by 2050 roadmap.
Vedanta Aluminium also reported 100 percent fly ash utilisation, with the by-product used in cement manufacturing, road construction, bricks and mine backfilling. The company is exploring circular economy solutions for bauxite residue (red mud) through research partnerships with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.
Other initiatives include biodiversity restoration projects in collaboration with PwC, advanced water recycling systems with zero liquid discharge at several facilities, and the recycling or reuse of more than 14.6 million tonnes of waste in FY25.
Beyond environmental initiatives, the company’s community development programmes currently reach over 1.75 million women and children across Odisha and Chhattisgarh, covering areas such as education, healthcare, livelihoods and women’s empowerment.
