Uttarakhand Installs 1,132 Solar Plants Under MSSY, Reaches 210 MW Capacity

Uttarakhand has installed 1,132 solar plants with a combined capacity of 2,10,420 kW, or about 210 MW, under the Mukhyamantri Saur Swarojgar Yojana (MSSY) as of June 2026.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the scheme is promoting renewable energy while creating self employment and livelihood opportunities for local residents, particularly in rural and hill areas. The government expects these opportunities to support local economies and help reduce migration from the mountain regions.

Solar projects established under MSSY are currently supporting around 3,500 direct and indirect jobs. Dhami has set a target of increasing the solar capacity developed under the scheme to 250 MW.

Under MSSY, Uttarakhand residents can establish solar plants with capacities of 20 kW, 25 kW, 50 kW, 100 kW and 200 kW. Beneficiaries can also access benefits available under the MSME Policy 2023.

Tehri has recorded the highest number of projects under the scheme, with 369 plants having a combined capacity of 69,050 kW. Uttarkashi follows with 227 plants and 43,660 kW, while Champawat has 144 plants with 28,200 kW.

Haridwar has 86 plants with 16,900 kW, Pauri has 88 plants with 15,440 kW, Chamoli has 72 plants with 11,725 kW and Almora has 32 plants with 5,600 kW. Projects have also been established in Dehradun, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Nainital, Pithoragarh and Udham Singh Nagar.

The government said that work on several other approved projects is underway, with the scheme continuing to focus on expanding renewable energy while creating income and employment opportunities closer to people's homes.
