Lucknow’s upcoming Artificial Intelligence (AI) City is being planned as a fully green-powered technology hub, with the entire project designed to run exclusively on renewable energy sources.
State government officials said that the city will integrate solar power, green hydrogen and other clean energy solutions to meet the electricity requirements of its core infrastructure, including data centres, research facilities and smart urban systems.
The AI City is envisioned as a dedicated technology ecosystem hosting high-performance computing facilities, innovation hubs and global technology companies. Planners said sustainability considerations are being incorporated at the design stage to ensure seamless integration of renewable power systems across all operational layers.
Officials noted that relying on clean energy will help reduce emissions, strengthen energy reliability and lower long-term dependence on conventional grid supply. The approach is also expected to enhance the project’s attractiveness to global investors and technology firms focused on low-carbon and ESG-compliant operations.
The project is also expected to align with global sustainability and environmental, social and governance (ESG) benchmarks, making it more attractive to international technology firms and investors that prioritise low-carbon operations. Officials said early integration of renewable energy infrastructure is more cost-effective and operationally efficient than transitioning existing facilities at a later stage.
The state has announced multiple initiatives focused on expanding solar power capacity, promoting green hydrogen production and developing energy-efficient urban infrastructure. The AI City is expected to serve as a demonstration model for how future technology-led urban developments can operate with minimal environmental impact.
With significant public and private investment anticipated, the project aims to attract global technology companies, research institutions and innovation-driven enterprises while maintaining a strong focus on sustainability. If implemented as planned, the Lucknow AI City could set a precedent for future smart cities and technology parks across India, showcasing how digital growth and clean energy adoption can progress together.
