Uttar Pradesh has achieved a significant clean energy milestone by crossing 2 GW of installed residential rooftop solar capacity, according to the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA).

The growth has been driven largely by increased adoption of rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, a central government initiative that provides financial assistance to households for installing solar panels.

Officials stated that the expansion has been supported by active participation from consumers, empanelled vendors, electricity distribution companies, and financial institutions involved in the implementation of the scheme. The coordinated efforts across stakeholders have helped accelerate the deployment of rooftop solar systems across the state.

According to officials, the milestone underscores Uttar Pradesh's continued progress in expanding its renewable energy capacity, and further, rooftop solar installations are enabling households to reduce electricity expenses while supporting efforts to cut carbon emissions and promote environmental sustainability.

With this development, Uttar Pradesh has joined a select group of states in the country that have surpassed the 2 GW mark in residential rooftop solar installations, marking a notable step forward in its renewable energy transition.
