Kanpur is set to emerge as a major electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing hub, with the Uttar Pradesh government announcing a INR 700 crore investment under the Kanpur Metropolitan Development Vision 2030.

As per reports, the project aims to create a cutting-edge EV park near Bhimsen, spread across 500 acres and located strategically along the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC).

The initiative, to be executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model by the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA), will house advanced manufacturing units for electric motors, chassis, steel components, lithium-ion cells, and other essential EV parts. The park will also feature facilities for battery assembly, chargers, controllers, and electronic components.

A key feature of the hub will be a dedicated research and development (R&D) centre aimed at fostering innovation and next-gen EV technologies. Officials said the park will not only bolster the local EV supply chain and promote indigenous manufacturing, but also significantly boost employment and entrepreneurship in the region.

"The initiative aims to position Kanpur as a key player in India's EV ecosystem," the government said in a statement, adding that the project would contribute meaningfully to Uttar Pradesh’s overall economic growth.
