Union Minister Piyush Goyal Inaugurates SIAM EV Zone at IEC GM 2025

Union Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated SIAM’s EV Zone at IEC GM 2025, featuring 31 production-ready electric vehicles from 14 OEMs, highlighting India’s strides in sustainable mobility and global automotive standards.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the SIAM EV Zone at the IEC GM 2025 exhibition at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Organised by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) alongside the 89th General Meeting of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and hosted by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the event runs from 15–19 September 2025 under the theme, 'Fostering a Sustainable World.' 

The EV Zone showcases India’s automobile industry advancements in electric mobility and sustainable technologies. Goyal explored 31 production-ready electric vehicles from 14 leading OEMs, including Tata Motors, Mahindra, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, and Ather Energy, reflecting India’s rapid progress toward green transportation.

Speaking on the occasion, Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry stated that sustainability was being focused on as the pillar of growth in India, since nature was intrinsically respected by every Indian. He also emphasised that good standards were needed for a developing country like India. It was conveyed that products designed and made in India would soon be recognized globally as symbols of reliability, sustainability, and excellence. He further highlighted that these standards were regarded as playing a vital role in protecting consumers, boosting satisfaction, and enhancing competitiveness in the global market.

Prashant K Banerjee, Executive Director, SIAM, said, "We are encouraged by government’s vision that ‘Design in India, Made in India’ products will be globally recognised for their reliability, sustainability, and excellence. We deeply appreciate the focus on how automotive standards safeguard consumers, build trust, and enhance our competitiveness in the global market. IEC GM 2025 gathers over 2,000 experts from 100+ countries, showcasing electric mobility, smart lighting, electronics, and IT manufacturing. SIAM’s EV Zone reinforces India’s Net Zero targets, encouraging visitors to take the Digital Sustainability Pledge, with BIS planting a sapling for every pledge.
