Union Minister Manohar Lal inaugurated the National Feeder Monitoring System (NFMS) Control Centre at REC Limited’s headquarters in Gurugram, celebrating the company’s 55th Foundation Day. The event saw the presence of Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, and Vivek Kumar Dewangan, CMD of REC.
The NFMS, a major initiative by the Ministry of Power, aims to deliver real-time data on around 2.5 lakh 11 kV feeders across India. This system will enhance the monitoring of power supply, outages, and feeder health, promoting greater transparency and efficiency in power distribution.
By integrating data with 87 Discoms, the NFMS is set to improve decision-making and performance management. The newly established control centre at REC’s corporate office will manage NFMS operations daily, ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of the data on the portal. This initiative supports the broader goal of providing 24x7 continuous power supply nationwide.
In conjunction with the NFMS launch, Minister Lal also participated in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, planting trees at the REC office to promote environmental sustainability.
Earlier in the evening, Naik also held a pivotal meeting with representatives from renewable industry associations, including the All-Indian Solar Industries Association. The discussions focused on the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and other incentives aimed at boosting Indian manufacturing in the renewable energy sector.
The Minister assured stakeholders of the MNRE’s full support, emphasising the government’s commitment to accelerating India’s transition to a low-carbon economy. His remarks highlighted the government’s dedication to fostering growth and innovation within the sector. Secretary of MNRE, Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, also attended the meeting, reinforcing the Ministry’s commitment to supporting industry advancements.
This engagement marks a significant step in strengthening collaboration between the government and industry players, reinforcing India’s position in the global renewable energy market, and driving sector progress.
