Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy has urged Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to join hands with Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) under his ministry, including Coal India Ltd. (CIL) and NLC India Ltd. (NLCIL), to develop large-scale renewable energy projects in the state.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, Reddy proposed a wide-ranging green infrastructure plan that includes solar and wind energy projects, Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs), and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The initiatives are expected to mobilise investments worth INR 10,000 crore in Telangana over the next three years.
The proposal outlines the development of solar projects leveraging the state’s high solar irradiation zones, advanced BESS deployments to boost grid reliability, and PSPs aimed at enhancing energy balancing capacity. The minister also suggested forming joint ventures between CPSUs and state-run enterprises or implementing the projects independently, to expedite execution and amplify local economic benefits.
However, successful implementation would require the Telangana government’s cooperation in facilitating land acquisition and project approvals. “These projects can play a vital role in cutting carbon emissions, improving air quality, and ensuring sustainable natural resource use,” Reddy said.
Emphasising the broader economic impact, he added that the green energy initiatives would generate employment, enhance skill development, and improve access to affordable, reliable power, while contributing to the state's overall development.
Reddy, who also represents Secunderabad in Parliament, stressed the need for seamless coordination between the state government and CPSUs. He urged the Chief Minister to take an active role in enabling timely execution, noting that Telangana’s leadership could “serve as a model for Centre-State collaboration on clean energy.”
The minister concluded by highlighting Telangana’s renewable energy potential and the Centre’s commitment to green growth as key drivers to accelerate the state’s economic and energy transition.
