Una Ecosystems Pvt. Ltd. has proposed investing INR 2,000 crore to establish a lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility at Electronics Manufacturing Cluster-2 (EMC-2) in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

The proposed greenfield project is expected to generate more than 2,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, according to information released about the investment plan.

The proposal was discussed at a meeting between Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Una Ecosystems CEO Vishal Singh and Head of Operations Lokendra Agrawal on the opening day of the two-day Madhya Pradesh Semiconductor Summit 2026 at the Brilliant Convention Centre in Indore.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed the company's proposed investment plans and discussed opportunities to accelerate industrial development in the state. He also invited the company representatives to participate in the Global Investors Summit, scheduled for January 2027.

The proposed facility at EMC-2 in Bhopal will manufacture next-generation lithium-ion cells using high-lithium manganese oxide (high-LMO) technology. The project is planned as a greenfield unit, although the information provided does not specify its construction schedule, proposed production capacity or expected commissioning date.

The investment is expected to create more than 500 direct jobs and over 1,500 indirect employment opportunities. The indirect jobs could arise across supporting industries and services associated with manufacturing, although the company has not provided a detailed employment breakdown.

The proposed plant would expand Madhya Pradesh's electronics manufacturing base and potentially support supply chains linked to electric vehicles, battery storage and clean energy applications.

Ahmedabad-based Una Ecosystems develops lithium-ion cells and battery solutions for electric vehicles, solar energy applications, industrial equipment and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) requirements. The company focuses on battery solutions designed to support safe and fast charging.

The proposed Bhopal investment would mark the company's planned entry into Madhya Pradesh's manufacturing sector. According to the information provided, the company's project has roots in Japan, while it currently has no operational presence in the state.

The proposed use of high-LMO technology is a key feature of the planned facility. Lithium-ion battery chemistries vary in energy density, power delivery, cost and thermal characteristics. However, details about the cell specifications, intended applications, manufacturing technology suppliers and planned product range for the Bhopal unit have not been disclosed.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav assured the company representatives of the state government's commitment to providing industries with the necessary resources and infrastructure. The discussions formed part of the state's broader efforts to attract investment in electronics, advanced manufacturing and emerging technologies.

The proposed facility could strengthen Madhya Pradesh's Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) ecosystem, particularly if it supports the development of local supply chains for batteries and associated components. Lithium-ion cells are used in electric mobility, stationary energy storage and industrial applications, making cell manufacturing relevant to the expansion of clean energy technologies.

However, the proposal remains an investment plan, and details regarding final approvals, land allocation, financing and the implementation timeline were not available in the information provided.

The investment proposal was discussed during the Madhya Pradesh Semiconductor Summit 2026, held over two days at the Brilliant Convention Centre in Indore. The summit brought together industry representatives and investors to explore opportunities for industrial development in the state.

Mohan Yadav held individual meetings with industry leaders to review investment proposals and discuss ways to accelerate manufacturing activity. His invitation to Una Ecosystems to participate in the Global Investors Summit in January 2027 was aimed at continuing engagement with the company and encouraging further investment.

If implemented, the proposed INR 2,000 crore project would add to Madhya Pradesh's manufacturing infrastructure and create employment in Bhopal. Its eventual contribution to the state's battery and clean energy supply chains will depend on the project's final investment decision, manufacturing capacity and execution timeline.
