UAE and Japan Forge Ties in Energy and Water Sector at World Future Energy Summit 2024

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), in partnership with the Japan Cooperation Center for the Middle East, organized a joint session on the sidelines of the World Future Energy Summit 2024 to strengthen collaboration and innovation in the energy and water sector. 

The session served as a platform to exchange insights, discuss the latest developments, and showcase best practices in the field.

Bringing together a diverse array of stakeholders, the session saw participation from local and federal departments, electricity and water companies, academic institutions including Khalifa University, Sharjah University, and New York University Abu Dhabi, as well as several prominent Japanese companies and universities specializing in water desalination.

One of the primary objectives of the session was to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation between the UAE and Japan, focusing on improving energy efficiency, accelerating the deployment of renewable energy solutions, and leveraging the latest advancements in desalination technologies. Participants also underscored the UAE's leading role in implementing innovative desalination projects and deploying smart management technologies in line with the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036.

Eng Ahmed Al Kaabi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Electricity, Water, and Future Energy Sector at MoEI, graced the session with his presence. In his remarks, he lauded the longstanding and fruitful relationship between the UAE and Japan, attributing the progress to a shared vision and mutual trust.

Eng Al Kaabi emphasized the critical role of water projects in meeting the growing demands of the UAE's expanding population. He noted, "Such meetings reflect the joint desire of both countries to expand the scope of cooperation between them," highlighting the commitment of both nations to further collaboration and innovation in the energy and water sector.
