Triveni Turbine Ltd. (TTL), a firm specialising in industrial heat and power solutions, has inaugurated the 'Triveni Turbines Centre of Excellence' at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.
The centre will serve as a major platform for advanced research in energy transition technologies and decentralised, steam-based renewable turbomachinery up to 100 MW.
The new R&D facility is designed to accelerate innovation in high-efficiency, low-carbon systems that help industries boost process performance and cut emissions. It builds on TTL and IISc’s longstanding collaboration, which earlier delivered pioneering work on CO₂ heat pump systems for industrial applications.
Adding momentum to this partnership, IISc has also instituted the ‘Dhruv Manmohan Sawhney Turbomachinery Chair’, dedicated to advancing research in areas such as thermal energy, energy-transition solutions, and next-generation sustainable systems. The Chair will support foundational and applied research while nurturing emerging talent in the field.
“At Triveni Turbines, we believe the future of industrial progress lies in collaborative innovation. The Centre of Excellence at IISc will catalyse pioneering research in turbomachinery and sustainable energy technologies,” said Dhruv M. Sawhney, Chairman and Managing Director, TTL.
IISc Director Prof. G. Rangarajan welcomed the initiative, noting that both the Centre and the Chair Professorship will “foster cutting-edge research on turbomachinery and sustainable technologies.”
Equipped with advanced testing capabilities and research infrastructure, the Centre will bring together engineers and scientists working on performance optimisation, materials innovation, and sustainable design, reinforcing TTL’s commitment to engineering excellence and India’s push towards cleaner industrial growth.
