Trina Storage to Supply BESS for 132MW Waroona Solar Project in Australia
Waroona Stage One, located about 120 km south of Perth, will combine a 132 MW solar facility with an 81.5 MW/6.9-hour BESS.

Trina Storage, the utility-scale energy storage business of Trinasolar, has been selected to supply a battery energy storage system for the first stage of Frontier Energy’s Waroona Renewable Energy Project in Western Australia.
Waroona Stage One, located about 120 km south of Perth, will combine a 132 MW solar facility with an 81.5 MW/6.9-hour battery energy storage system. First power generation is scheduled for 2028.
Trina Storage will supply its Elementa utility-scale direct-current solution, using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells manufactured at Trina’s Changzhou battery plant in China.
The system will feature liquid cooling and multiple safety measures, including heat, gas and smoke detection and active fire protection, Trina Storage said.
The project will use a DC-coupled architecture, integrating the solar and storage systems on the direct-current side. Trina said its experience across photovoltaic modules, trackers and energy storage would support the system design and integration.
“We're pleased that Frontier Energy selected Trina Storage for this project,” said Warrick Stapleton, head of sales for APAC, Trina Storage.
The agreement includes a 20-year warranty and performance guarantees, which the companies said would support long-term asset performance and project financing.
“Stage One is the foundation of our broader plans and is designed to support a more reliable and flexible electricity system,” said Adam Kiley, Chief Executive Officer of Frontier Energy.
The Waroona project forms part of Frontier Energy’s longer-term development plans, with future stages expected to increase generation capacity to about 1,000 MW and battery capacity to as much as 660 MW.
