In July 2012, the tour d’e-bike is to start in the very north of Germany, right by the North Sea. The tour will meander its way to the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest point. “We are not going to cycle up the Zugspitze, though. Our destination is Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Our real aim is the promotion of electro-mobility,” says Frank Hilgenfeld, spokesman of Emmvee Photovoltaics GmbH, a manufacturer of solar-modules. The tour will stop in Cloppenburg, seat of Raleigh, the supplier of the bikes, Bielefeld, Kassel, Fulda, Wuerzbug, Ingolstadt and Munich. Within nine days, the cyclists will cover some 1000 km.
There are spectacular landscapes, challenging mountains and a few surprises.
15 enthusiastic cyclists have already registered for the tour and only few places are left. If you are interested in taking part, you can contact the organisers via info@tourdebike.de.
The tour is challenging but it is not a competition, fun, technology and the aim to promote clean mobility are more important than quick times.
“We want to demonstrate the reliability of e-bikes,” say Frank Hilgenfeld of Emmvee. The German-Indian producer of solar-modules has started a network of like-minded companies and institutions to ensure success of the tour.
Here, one finds Radclub Germany, the Federal Association for E-Mobility, Raleigh and other companies contributing to the tour.
