A consortium between France’s TotalEnergies and Saudi developer Aljomaih Energy & Water (AEW) has won a contract from the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) to develop, build, and operate a 400 MW solar power plant in As Sufun, Saudi Arabia.
The project, awarded under Round 6 of the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), will sell power to SPPC under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and is expected to be connected to the grid by 2027, providing clean electricity to over 68,400 homes.
Part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategy, the initiative aims to reduce the Kingdom’s reliance on liquid fuels and boost renewable energy’s share of the national energy mix to up to 50 percent by 2030.
Olivier Jouny, SVP Renewables at TotalEnergies, said, “Together with our partner Aljomaih Energy and Water Co., we are thrilled to contribute to Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy targets. This marks our second success under the NREP, reinforcing TotalEnergies’ commitment to supporting the Kingdom’s energy transition.”
Ibrahim Aljomaih, Chairman of AEW, added, “This milestone reflects our commitment to the Saudi Green Initiative and Vision 2030. Through trusted partnerships and local expertise, we continue to advance the Kingdom’s sustainable energy ambitions.”
The As Sufun Solar PV Project, located in the Hail region, follows TotalEnergies’ ongoing renewable operations in the country, including the 119 MW Wadi Al Dawasir solar plant and the under-construction 300 MW Rabigh 2 project.
