Thermal Powertech Corporation India Commences Full Commercial Operation

Total operational capacity of 1,320 megawatts will help improve power supply

September 15, 2015. By Moulin

Thermal Powertech Corporation India (TPCIL) has announced that it has successfully commenced full commercial operation with the completion of its second and final 660-megawatt unit.

The approximately US$1.5 billion coal-fired power plant, which has a total capacity of 1,320 megawatts, has completed its first 660-megawatt unit in February 2015 and is already supplying 500 megawatts of power to the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Power Distribution Companies under a 25-year power purchase agreement. The plant is more efficient and environmentally friendlycompared to conventional coal-fired power plants as it uses supercritical technology.

Atul Nargund, CEO of TPCIL, said, “It is indeed an honour to announce the successful commissioning of the second unit, after the commissioning of the first unit in February 2015. With this, the plant is fully operational with gross generation capacity of 1,320 megawatts, helping to meet the increasing power demand in the southern states of India and supporting their economic growth. We would like to thank all our stakeholders for the support extended in setting up this project in Nellore.”
