Take a look at the lighting in your room; do you know what kind of bulbs are in it? Chances are they're either traditional incandescent bulbs or CFL helix bulbs. Between the two of those, Incandescent bulbs are still the more common form of traditional lighting as the bulbs are cheaper with CFLs gaining popularity among the energy efficiency crowds. What you probably didn't know is that you have yet a third and even better option for all of your lighting needs. LED lighting is a technologically fast growing giant that's sweeping the globe by storm, putting older CFL and incandescent bulbs to shame.
LED or Light Emitting Diode lights are made up of many smaller LED lights to comprise one larger bulb. Because of the power of the individual LEDs, the end result is something much brighter and more focused than other kinds of bulbs. The while light of LED lighting is vastly more energy efficient than traditional lighting, cutting power costs by up to a sixth of incandescent bulbs and using just as little electricity. In addition, the replacement costs of LEDs over other bulbs pay for themselves as they have a whopping 25,000 hours of life which is triple that of CFLs and over ten times as long as incandescent bulbs!
By using LED lighting you're not just doing the environment a favor, you're helping your wallet out as well. The initial cost of the LED bulb can seem a little daunting at around $20 but within a year, each bulb you purchase practically pays for itself in the savings you earn by using less power for just as much or even more light. If you haven't switched your home or business lighting over to LED bulbs already, you may as well be just putting your money directly into the garbage.
