Ambassador Steiner inaugurated a mini solar plant plus TV system in a remote village (Baramulla District) without electricity supply several kilometers away from Srinagar. Both solar plant and TV system have been donated by the German Embassy. The Ambassador interacted with the villagers, listened to their needs and also watched a sequence of the Kashmir Concert with them as they had wanted, but could not do so on 7th of September.
Ahead of his trip, Ambassador Steiner stated,
“My ninth visit to Kashmir this year is part of our continous social and civic commitment for this troubled place - from health care to education. Within our limited possibilities, we lend focussed, sustainable support on a people-to-people basis. Our engagement is about striking a true cord with the Kashmiris.”
Since years, the German Embassy is engaged in the valley. It has funded the Village Health Camp (dental treatment) in Mattipoora as well as the construction of an ambulant medical center near Baramulla. The current engagement amounts to 17 Lakh Rupees. Furthermore, the Ambassador is in touch with a German company, one of the world’s leading suppliers of materials and component testing systems, interested in setting up a training center in the region.
