The Avenues-Bahrain has announced a collaboration with Yellow Door Energy, a sustainable energy partner for businesses, to introduce a sustainable energy project. Under a power purchase agreement (PPA) model, the initiative will see the development of a 3.5 MWp solar carport system.

The project will involve the installation of over 6,000 cutting-edge bifacial solar panels across the entire outdoor parking facility of The Avenues-Bahrain. Construction is set to commence shortly, with the solar system anticipated to be completed in Q4 2024. Upon completion, the solar carport system will provide shading to 1,025 parking spots, covering an area of 23,500 square meters.

The initiative is expected to generate over 5.8 million KWh of clean energy in the first year of operation, equivalent to reducing carbon emissions by 4,000 metric tons, thereby significantly enhancing the complex's sustainability leadership.

Firas Barakat, Mall Director at The Avenues Bahrain, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "We are proud to join forces with Yellow Door Energy on this initiative. This solar energy project is a testament to our commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable development. By harnessing the power of the sun to meet our energy needs, we are taking significant strides towards a greener and more sustainable future for Bahrain."

Hani Majzoub, Senior Vice President of Commercial Development at Yellow Door Energy, also conveyed his excitement for the project, stating, "We are honored to partner with Avenues-Bahrain through the signing of this solar power purchase agreement (PPA). This collaboration marks our sixth signed solar project in Bahrain, elevating our portfolio to over 30 MWp of awarded solar projects. As the leading solar developer in Bahrain, Yellow Door Energy remains steadfast in our commitment to empowering organizations to reduce energy costs, enhance competitiveness, and lower greenhouse gas emissions."

In alignment with the Kingdom of Bahrain's Vision 2030 to reduce carbon emissions, minimize pollution, and promote the sourcing of more sustainable energy, The Avenues-Bahrain has led such initiatives. Since 2018, its multi-story car park has been equipped with a rooftop grid connected to a Solar Photovoltaics (PV) system, generating 250 KWp at peak and reducing the carbon footprint by 300 metric tons per year.
