TERI, NABARD Train Rural Youth in EV Charging Skills

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), in collaboration with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), organised a valedictory and certificate distribution ceremony for a training programme aimed at skilling rural youth in electric vehicle (EV) charging installation, operations and maintenance.

The programme, titled 'Future-Ready EV Workforce: Skilling Rural Youth in Installation, Operations, and Maintenance', was held at TERI in New Delhi. It focused on developing technical capabilities among rural youth from the National Capital Territory (NCT) and creating awareness about employment and livelihood opportunities emerging from the electric mobility sector.

The valedictory programme brought together representatives from TERI, NABARD, industry and training partners. Sessions covered the objectives of green skilling, the training context and outcomes, prospects for developing a future-ready EV workforce, and the role of institutions in promoting green skills and sustainability practices.

Dr P K Bhattacharya, Director, Knowledge Resource Centre, TERI, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the importance of skill development in emerging green sectors. Dhananjay Raghunath Gajare, Assistant Manager, NABARD, spoke about the objectives of green skilling and its relevance to sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Avinash, CEO, DIY Guru, addressed the participants on the need for a skilled workforce to support the growth of electric mobility. He highlighted the importance of hands-on training in EV technology, battery systems, charging infrastructure, maintenance and diagnostics, noting that industry-oriented programmes can help address skill gaps and support employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Dr Dipankar Saharia, Senior Fellow and Senior Director, TERI, delivered the keynote address and spoke about the role of green skills in addressing emerging environmental and technological challenges. He also emphasised collaboration among research institutions, government, industry and training organisations to develop a workforce aligned with India’s sustainability transition.

Nabin Kumar Roy, Chief General Manager, New Delhi Regional Office, NABARD, delivered the valedictory address. He highlighted the role of green skilling in empowering youth and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities, and encouraged participants to acquire relevant technical and practical skills to improve their employability and explore opportunities in emerging green sectors.

Roy also referred to the Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) initiative and encouraged participants to register and participate in the programme to access opportunities related to youth engagement, skill development and nation-building activities.

He congratulated TERI for mobilising students from across Delhi-NCR and appreciated their participation in the training programme.

The event concluded with the distribution of certificates to trainees who successfully completed the programme. Participants also shared their experiences and feedback on the training and their exposure to EV-related skills.
