Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has launched the Indira Soura Giri Jala Vikasam scheme aimed at supporting tribal farmers by providing free 5 to 7.5 HP solar pumps for irrigating horticultural crops.
The launch also marked the release of the 12-point ‘Nallamala Declaration’, outlining developmental initiatives for forest-dwelling tribal communities.
As part of the pilot, 45 tribal farmers in Macharam, whose lands were previously seized and who faced legal action, will benefit from solar-powered irrigation on 45 acres. The Chief Minister committed to distributing solar pumps to all farmers in the Achampet constituency within 100 days and instructed officials to explore setting up solar power plants via women’s self-help groups for additional income.
The CM emphasized that plans should be drawn up to provide solar pump sets to every farmer, similar to the model implemented in Achampet, enabling farmers to boost their income without relying on electricity.
The scheme aims to cover six lakh acres currently lacking electricity, enabling farmers to cultivate horticultural crops and achieve self-reliance. In its first year, INR 600 crore will be invested to bring 27,000 acres belonging to 10,000 farmers under cultivation.
The government has allocated INR 12,600 crore for the scheme’s state-wide implementation over the next four years.
