On World EV Day, Tata Power and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM) unveiled Mumbai’s first premium large-scale electric vehicle charging hub under the TATA.ev MegaCharger initiative, marking India’s largest co-branded charging facility to date.
The hub, inaugurated jointly by Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Power, and Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., is strategically located near Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, within the premises of The Leela Mumbai Hotel.
Designed to cater to the city’s diverse EV ecosystem, the charging station aims to serve private car owners, taxis, ride-hailing fleets, and logistics operators. Positioned in a busy travel and business corridor connecting Andheri, Bandra Kurla Complex, and South Mumbai, the facility also offers convenient access to frequent flyers, hotel guests, and professionals.
The TATA.ev MegaCharger hub is equipped with eight fast DC chargers capable of speeds up to 120 kW, providing 16 charging bays in total. This setup enables up to 16 EVs to charge simultaneously, significantly reducing wait times and offering round-the-clock accessibility. Importantly, the entire hub is powered by renewable energy, reinforcing the companies’ commitment to sustainable mobility.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Praveer Sinha of Tata Power said the new facility reflects an integrated approach to India’s green mobility transition. “Strategically located and powered entirely by renewable energy, this hub sets a benchmark for future-ready EV infrastructure. As we roll out similar hubs in major cities, Tata Power remains committed to delivering clean energy solutions and accelerating EV adoption across the country,” he noted.
Shailesh Chandra highlighted Tata Motors’ role in fostering both EV adoption and ecosystem development. “Tata Motors has been at the forefront of India’s EV revolution — not only by delivering world-class electric vehicles but also by supporting the creation of robust charging infrastructure. This co-branded MegaCharger is the first of many such installations and represents a significant milestone in our mission to expand fast and reliable charging across India,” he said.
The MegaCharger hub forms part of the wider TATA.ev MegaCharger network, the flagship charging initiative of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility. While open to all EV users, TATA.ev customers will enjoy exclusive benefits, including up to 25% discounts and priority charging access. The services can be accessed through the Tata Power EZ Charge app, already used by 400,000 registered customers, and will soon be integrated into the iRA.ev connected car app for TATA.ev owners.
The launch adds to Tata Power’s extensive charging footprint in Mumbai, which already boasts more than 1,000 green charging points. Nationwide, Tata Power operates over 5,500 public and captive charging points, 1.4 lakh home chargers, and 1,200 bus charging stations across more than 630 cities and towns. The company’s network covers highways, airports, malls, residential societies, and commercial hubs. By 2030, Tata Power aims to scale to 7.5 lakh home chargers and 10,000 public charging points, cementing its role in building a green mobility ecosystem.
The inauguration not only strengthens Tata Power and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility’s long-standing partnership but also underscores India’s rapid strides toward clean mobility, aligning with the broader national vision of sustainable transportation.
