Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has launched its flagship 'Ghar Ghar Solar' campaign in Punjab, aiming to accelerate rooftop solar adoption across the state by installing systems in more than 1 lakh homes over the next three years.

The initiative is expected to add over 500 MWp of cumulative rooftop solar capacity while expanding access to battery energy storage and affordable financing for residential and commercial consumers.

The company also introduced its Tata Power Battery Storage solutions and the 'Mera Gaon, Mera Solar' programme, a community-driven initiative designed to encourage rooftop solar adoption across rural and semi-urban Punjab.

The campaign seeks to create an integrated clean energy ecosystem by combining rooftop solar systems, battery storage, flexible financing and community outreach. Tata Power said that the initiative is aimed at meeting the evolving energy requirements of households, businesses and farming communities while enabling consumers to generate, store and use their own clean electricity.

Punjab has emerged as a key market for distributed renewable energy due to rising electricity consumption, growing environmental awareness and increasing demand for long-term energy cost savings. The company said that the expansion aligns with the Centre's PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, under which households are eligible for subsidies of ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW, and up to ₹78,000 for rooftop solar systems of 3 kW and above.

To make rooftop solar more affordable, Tata Power has introduced a special zero down-payment financing scheme in partnership with a financial institution for customers in Punjab. The scheme allows households to install rooftop solar systems without any upfront payment while repaying through affordable monthly EMIs. Residential consumers will also receive solar insurance coverage as part of the financing package.

The company said that rooftop solar systems ranging from 1 kW to 10 kW will be available for households based on their electricity requirements, while financing tenures extend up to 61 months.

Speaking at the launch, Tata Power CEO and Managing Director Dr. Praveer Sinha said that Punjab is emerging as an important market for distributed renewable energy due to rising electricity demand and growing consumer awareness. He said that the company aims to build a comprehensive ecosystem that combines rooftop solar, battery storage and accessible financing, enabling consumers to generate, store and use clean energy while supporting the state's renewable energy ambitions.

Alongside the rooftop solar campaign, Tata Power unveiled its Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) portfolio under the Tata Power Battery Storage brand. The residential battery storage range offers capacities from 5 kWh to 40 kWh, providing backup power and greater energy independence for rooftop solar users.

For commercial and industrial consumers, the company launched the PowerHub portfolio, comprising scalable battery storage solutions ranging from 60 kWh to 5 MWh across multiple configurations. The systems are designed to improve energy management, operational efficiency and the integration of renewable energy into business operations.

Tata Power said that it has already installed 169 MWp of rooftop solar capacity across Punjab through 5,661 installations, helping avoid more than 2 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, equivalent to planting over 84 lakh trees every year. In Chandigarh, the company has completed more than 250 rooftop solar installations.

The company also operates 59 EV charging points in Punjab and 11 charging points in Chandigarh, supporting the transition towards cleaner mobility.

Nationwide, Tata Power Renewables has completed more than 4.52 lakh rooftop solar installations with a cumulative capacity exceeding 5.1 GWp, reinforcing its position as one of India's leading renewable energy companies.
