Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Ltd., has successfully commissioned SJVN Ltd.’s 1 GW (1,000 MW AC / 1,400 MWp DC) domestic content requirement (DCR) compliant solar power project, marking its largest EPC execution to date.
The utility-scale project, located across the Bandarwala and Karnisar Bhatiyan sites in Bikaner, Rajasthan, is amonga India’s largest solar installations and will supply clean electricity to Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand.
All 2.4 million solar modules deployed in the project were manufactured at TP Solar Ltd.’s integrated solar cell and module facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, reinforcing Tata Power’s commitment to domestic manufacturing under the Make in India initiative.
The project’s capacity has been allocated to multiple state utilities, including 500 MW to Rajasthan Urja Vikas and IT Services Limited (RUVITL), 300 MW to Jammu and Kashmir Power Limited (JKPL), and 200 MW to Uttarakhand Power Corporation Ltd. (UPCL).
In its first year of operation, the plant is expected to generate approximately 2,454.84 million units of green electricity and offset nearly 1.74 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, supporting India’s decarbonisation and clean energy targets.
Designed to operate under extreme climatic conditions, ranging from peak summer temperatures of 50°C to winter lows of 3°C, the project integrates advanced DCR-compliant cells, mono bifacial DCR modules, precision ramming techniques, and high-performance inverters to optimise energy generation and operational reliability.
Beyond clean power generation, the project delivered significant socio-economic benefits, engaging over 300 local workers and enabling the development of more than 25 local vendors, contributing to sustained livelihood creation and regional economic growth.
With this commissioning, TPREL’s total utility-scale renewable energy capacity has reached 11.6 GW, including 4.9 GW executed as third-party EPC projects. Tata Power currently operates 5.8 GW of its own renewable capacity, comprising 4.7 GW of solar and 1.1 GW of wind energy, while an additional 5.8 GW is under various stages of implementation.
The milestone further strengthens TPREL’s position as a leading EPC player in large-scale, multi-state solar deployments and a key contributor to India’s goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070.
