Tata Power lights up lives of Ambujwadi residents in Malad, Mumbai
First 13 applicants received power supply in their households for the first time

Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company has always endeavoured to provide reliable and quality power supply to the city of Mumbai. In continuation with these efforts, the Company has started power supply to slum dwellers of Ambujwadi who have so far been deprived of power connection. Tata Power has successfully provisioned power supply to 13 applicants of Ambujwadi residents. Further applications are getting processed.
As part of the Phase-I of the project, Tata Power has also set up last mile connectivity for 250 residents of Ambujwadi. More than 3000 consumers have already submitted applications to Tata Power. Mr. Sanjay Nirupam, Member of Parliament and Mr.. Aslam Shaikh, Member of Legislative Assembly switched on the power supply in the presence of Ambujwadi residents and Tata Power Distribution team. In order to meet the demand of consumers in the area, Tata Power has successfully established the Consumer Sub-Station and laid LT Network which will initially cater to the requirement of over 5,000 consumers.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Padmanabhan, Executive Director - Operations, Tata Power said “Until today Ambujwadi residents were deprived of ‘Electricity’ which is one of the most essential amenity especially in a metropolitan city like Mumbai. We are happy to light up the lives of the Ambujwadi residents and empower them along with other Tata Power consumers with efficient, affordable, 24x7 power at convenience. We are thankful to the Maharashtra State Government for their support in our endeavour to provide power supply to Ambujwadi residents.”
Mr.Sanjay Nirupam and Mr. Aslam Shaikh appreciated Tata Power’s efforts in provisioning power supply to the residents of Ambujwadi. The Company has put in a lot of efforts to supply basic necessities to Ambujwadi residents and lay extensive cable during heavy monsoon.
Ambujwadi is located in the western suburbs of Mumbai, very close to the Malwani area in Malad (West) and came into existence post 2006. The region is predominantly a slum area located over a span of land. Ambujwadi has a total population of around 50,000 people and this slum is inhabited by workers that include construction labours, hawkers, domestic workers etc. Since its inception the area is devoid of electricity supply.
