Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited has launched the ‘Solar Ambassador’ initiative to promote widespread adoption of rooftop solar solutions under the Government of India’s PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. As part of this initiative, Tata Power-DDL has appointed 20 specially trained officials as Solar Ambassadors who will work closely with communities to accelerate awareness and adoption of residential rooftop solar systems.

The initiative was unveiled on National Youth Day at the TPSDI – CENPEID Green Energy Skill Centre, Rohini, Delhi.

Building on its motto of ‘Community Empowerment Through Clean Energy’, the 20 trained Solar Ambassadors will serve as dedicated advocates for solar energy across North-West Delhi, with the objective of strengthening the public's understanding of the benefits of rooftop solar adoption.

According to Tata Power-DDL, all Solar Ambassadors have undergone extensive training in rooftop solar technologies at the TPSDI – CENPEID Green Energy Skill Centre in Delhi. Their mandate includes spreading awareness about the advantages of rooftop solar installations, educating households on sustainable energy solutions, and acting as a vital link between government policies and nearly 1.5 million consumers within Tata Power-DDL’s operational area. Each ambassador has been provided with a distinctive jacket, symbolising pride, leadership, and official recognition.

Introducing the initiative, the Tata Power-DDL spokesperson said, “Empowering young professionals with future-ready green energy skills is essential for driving India’s clean energy transition. The Solar Ambassador initiative reflects Tata Power-DDL’s commitment to nurturing youth leadership in sustainability while supporting the national mission of expanding rooftop solar adoption under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.”

Ravi Dadhich, Special Secretary (Power), Government of Delhi, added, “Initiatives like Tata Power-DDL’s Solar Ambassador programme play a crucial role in bridging policy intent with grassroots action by creating informed advocates who can drive awareness, adoption, and long-term impact at the community level.”

The campaign, led by Tata Power-DDL’s Solar Group, aspires to elevate the role of local communities and the younger generation in promoting sustainable development, thereby making a substantial contribution to India’s national clean energy mission.
