Tata Power-DDL Commissions 66/11 kV GIS Grid Substation at Narela Industrial Hub

In a bid to automate distribution network, Tata Power-DDL has commissioned a 66/11 KV GIS Grid Substation at Narela Industrial Hub in Delhi.

This newly commissioned substation is expected to benefit more than 2,000 industrial units in Narela and the adjoining areas like Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (DSIIDC) Industrial Area, Integrated Freight Corridor (IFC), National Institute of Technology (NIT Delhi), All India Radio, Khampur, Chemical Market (Shahpur Garhi) etc.

The company said that, this substation will help in improving the reliability of power supply and facilitate load growth management.

The grid substation was inaugurated by Satyendar Jain, Power Minister Govt. of NCT of Delhi in the presence of Sharad Kumar Chauhan, MLA, Narela and Ganesh Srinivasan, CEO, Tata Power-DDL. Among others present at the event were senior officials from General Electric (GE), the technology partner for the project.

The newly inaugurated Grid-substation is made up of environment friendly Lithium-Ion batteries as opposed to conventional Lead-Acid batteries. Lithium-Ion batteries are more efficient and have a better life-cycle.

Besides this, the substation is Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) based which makes it safer, compact and maintenance free with better longevity as compared to Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS).

While inaugurating, Satyendar Jain, Power Minister Govt. of NCT of Delhi appreciated the efforts of the company and termed the initiative beneficial for the industrial development in the area.

Speaking at the inauguration, Ganesh Srinivasan, CEO, Tata Power-DDL said, “the commissioning of this technologically advanced Grid Substation at Narela is a part of our commitment to ensure seamless power supply to our industrial consumers. The grid will enhance the reliability of power supply and facilitate seamless load growth management at this major industrial hub. I believe that this step will further reinforce our commitment to serve the consumers non-stop and also contribute towards the revival of Delhi’s economy post the unlock.”

The newly commissioned Grid Substation has an installed capacity of 63 MVA (Mega Volt Ampere), with 16 outgoing feeders at 11 kV level. It is an unmanned substation and will be remotely operated from the company’s Supervisory Controlled and Data Acquisition Center (SCADA).

The substation has an incoming supply from four 66 kV composite circuits emanating 2 Lines from 220KV Badli Grid and 2 Lines from 66KV TPDDL Narela Grid. This grid has been built on 100 per cent pipe foundation and has beens equipped with 2 Power Transformers of 31.5 MVA capacity each, and Nitrogen Injection Fire Protection System (NIFPS) along with auto-switched capacitor bank to ensure safe and quality power supply. Additionally smoke detectors have been installed.
