Tata Power commissioned 21MW wind farm in Rajasthan

Total power generation capacity of Tata Power stands at 8521 MW.

Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power utility and a leading wind power generator with an operating capacity of 397 MW today announced the commissioning of 21 MW wind project in Rajasthan.  The company has signed an agreement of installing 30 MW in the state of Rajasthan.

 

With this, the total power generation capacity of Tata Power stands at 8521 MW, reinforcing its position as the largest integrated power company in India.  Generation through clean sources such as hydro, wind and solar today stands at 873 MW and thermal power generation capacity at 7648 MW. Tata Power is India’s leading wind generation company with an operating capacity of 397 MW which is spread across five states- Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Karnataka. Further, its South Africa JV with Exxaro called Cennergi has been shortlisted as preferred bidder for two wind projects of 234 MW - Amakhala 139 MW and Tsitsikamma 95 MW projects.

 

Speaking on the development, Mr. Anil Sardana, Managing Director, Tata Power, said, “It’s our endeavour to have 20- 25 % of our total generation capacity from clean energy sources.  Wind energy is an important part of our renewable energy portfolio and we aim to add 150-200 MW annually. Through this project, we have now made a foray into Rajasthan. We are thankful to all the Government officials who have facilitated this project and look forward to their continued support.”

 

Tata Power has three of its renewable energy projects registered under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) programme of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). These projects include 50.4MW wind power project at Samana, 50.4 MW wind project at  Khandke, Maharashtra, and 25MW solar project at Mithapur, Gujarat.

 

The Company as part of its sustainability initiative, is committed to reducing its carbon footprint through focus on “clean and renewable energy” generation. Apart from the wind energy portfolio, it has 28+MW of operating solar power generation capacity makes it one of the largest wind and solar power generators in India. Its subsidiary Tata Power Delhi Distribution has also commissioned a 1MW grid-connected rooftop solar plant in Delhi. A 60.48KWP solar power plant has also been functional on top of one of the office buildings at Carnac Bunder, Mumbai. The Company proposes to add 150-200 MW of wind and 50 MW of solar power capacity every year.
