Tata Power has awarded contracts worth INR 11,481 crore to local contractors and suppliers through its managed distribution companies (DISCOMs) in Odisha. This substantial investment marks a significant development since Tata Power began its power distribution operations in the State three years ago.
The contracts are a part of Tata Power's strategic focus on supporting local businesses and fostering economic growth in Odisha. Of the total amount, INR 8,690 crore was allocated to local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), while non-MSMEs received INR 2,791 crore. This emphasis on local procurement underscores Tata Power's commitment to the 'Make in Odisha' initiative and highlights the company's role in the region's economic advancement.
The awarded contracts are categorised into materials and services, reflecting the diverse needs of power distribution. The materials category includes essential components such as distribution transformers, cables, and poles, amounting to INR 3,921 crore. This segment also covers the supply of LT and HT hardware, laptops, and desktops. In contrast, the services category encompasses INR 7,560 crore worth of contracts for tasks such as meter reading, billing, network maintenance, and call center operations. This category alone involved 4,347 local vendors.
The collaborative efforts between Tata Power and local vendors are managed through various Odisha Discoms, including TP Central, TP Southern, TP Northern, and TP Western Odisha Distribution Ltd. Over 6,645 local vendors and suppliers have been engaged through these partnerships, playing a crucial role in daily operations and contributing to job creation in the region.
The company hopes that these contracts will not only boost business opportunities but also drive substantial progress in Odisha's economic landscape, benefiting the broader community.
