TARIL Enters India’s Nuclear Power Sector with NPCIL Order for Transformers and Reactors

Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Ltd. (TARIL) has secured an order from Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd. (MEIL) to supply generator transformers for Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL) Kaiga Units 5 and 6 nuclear power project in Karnataka.

The order marks TARIL’s first entry into India’s nuclear power sector and expands its presence in critical power infrastructure projects. The generator transformers will form a key part of the electrical infrastructure at the project, supporting power evacuation from the nuclear units and integration with the transmission network.

Kaiga Units 5 and 6 comprise two indigenous 700 MWe Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) being developed by NPCIL at Kaiga in Karnataka. The two units will together add 1,400 MW of nuclear generation capacity at the site and form part of India’s indigenous 700 MWe PHWR programme.

The project is aimed at supporting India’s expansion of nuclear power generation while strengthening domestic technology and manufacturing capabilities. The generator transformers supplied by TARIL will play a critical role in evacuating electricity generated by the reactors into the transmission network.

He said that nuclear energy would have an important role in India’s long-term energy security and clean energy ambitions, while the order validates TARIL’s technology, engineering capabilities and ability to supply equipment for critical power applications.

TARIL said  that the order further strengthens its position in the high-value and critical power infrastructure segment as India continues to expand its generation and transmission capacity. The company has been enhancing its manufacturing capabilities, technology and backward integration to address the evolving requirements of the power sector.

With its entry into nuclear power, TARIL plans to leverage its expertise in high-voltage transformer manufacturing to support critical generation and transmission infrastructure and participate in India’s expanding nuclear energy ecosystem.

Headquartered in Ahmedabad, TARIL manufactures power, distribution and specialty transformers with capacities ranging from 5 MVA to 1,000 MVA and voltage classes up to 1,200 kV. The company operates manufacturing facilities in Gujarat, supported by design, engineering and testing infrastructure, including a 1,200 kV ultra-high voltage test facility.
