Taiwanese Company Gogoro Perceives India as Hub for Manufacturing Electric Two Wheelers

Taiwanese company Gogoro proposes to make India its global manufacturing centre for electric two-wheelers.
Gogoro manufactures electric two wheelers and facilitates a battery swapping station network.
The company is considering for the battery swapping policy to enter through and proposes to make huge investments in this segment in collaboration with global equity funds. Presently, it manufactures only in Taiwan.
The company has associated contracts with startups such as Zomato and Zypp and is having discussion with Zomato to avail the vehicles and run the battery swapping system for its last mile fleet.
As per Gogoro’s research, about 10 per cent of the two wheelers are utilised by project-based workers for some kind of delivery or commercial transportation service. This is a big market which will require to be transformed to B2B electric two wheelers.
The entity’s outlay will be focussed on constructing the swapping station infrastructure under which 150 swapping stations are crucial for every 10,000 riders. Each Gogoro swapping station outlet has placed 28 batteries.
Though Gogoro will not restrict itself to the B2B space, it is a greatly B2C player where more than 5,30,000 subscribers utilise its swapping stations and where it has undertaken the swapping of more than 155 million batteries average per year.
