The Sustainability Mafia, a community of purpose-driven entrepreneurs, has unveiled its venture creation program, 'SusVentures.' This initiative aims to foster the development of 100 climate action companies within the next three years, signaling a pivotal step towards global sustainability.
SusVentures stands out as a venture creation program, poised to empower the next generation of climate innovators. In collaboration with the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani), SusVentures has launched its inaugural cohort, enrolling 50 student entrepreneurs from diverse engineering disciplines across multiple campuses. These students will embark on a journey to build 14 startups addressing critical challenges in sectors such as Circular Economy, Energy Efficiency, Electric Vehicles (EV), and Solar Energy.
The SusVentures program offers participants not only courses in entrepreneurial skills but also access to an 'Idea Bank' comprising curated problem statements sourced directly from climate experts. Additionally, each startup will be paired with a Dedicated Mentor, providing invaluable expertise, market access, and support.
Notably, SusVentures has garnered philanthropic support from notable individuals and corporations, including Rohit Rajput of Intersection Ventures, Pradip Burman of Dabur Nepal, Mirik Gogri of Spectrum Impact, and CSR funding from companies like Parksons Packaging Ltd and Sanghvi Movers Ltd. Theia Ventures, an official Investment Partner, has committed to investing USD 100,000 in equity funding for promising startups emerging from the program.
The SusVentures program’s lineup of instructors and mentors include Ameya A, a senior people leader, and founders of industry-leading climate startups including Krishnan Kasturirangan (Wastelink), Ankit Mittal (Sheru), Raju Namburi (Bridge Things), Anirudh Gupta (Climes), Anirudh Ramesh (Irasus Technologies), Varun Karasia (Satma CE), Rishika Reddy (The Mend Packaging), Kishan Karunakaran (Buyofuel), Himanshu Sharma (Theia Ventures), among others. Additionally, various distinguished industry leaders like Saurabh Kumar (GEAPP); Shyamal Kumar (Lavelle Networks), and Jason Jay (MIT School of Sustainability) has taken guest lectures so far along with Professors from BITS Pilani.
Looking ahead, SusVentures will be offered through collaborations with top-tier Indian universities and in-person Immersion Programs, catering to a wider pool of applicants, including working professionals, corporate leaders, serial entrepreneurs, and researchers. This multi-faceted approach ensures the program's reach and impact in fostering a sustainable future.
