In a bold push to address India’s mounting climate crisis, The Sustainability Mafia (SusMafia), a nonprofit network of over 100 climate-tech leaders, has released the country’s first-ever Climate-Tech Opportunity Map.

The initiative outlines 25 high-impact, startup-ready solutions aimed at reducing up to 72 percent of India's carbon emissions, at a time when the nation faces projected annual climate-related losses of INR 6 trillion by 2030.

The Opportunity Map, developed under SusMafia’s flagship SusVentures program, aims to catalyze the next 100 climate startups by spotlighting critical problem areas across energy, agriculture, industry, and water. The program, co-founded by climate entrepreneurs Arjun P Gupta (Smart Joules) and Aditya Bhat (AirProbe), provides early-stage support to climate founders through mentorship, pilot partnerships, and investor access.

“SusVentures was built to back bold climate builders from idea to execution,” said Aneesa Patel, co-founder at SusVentures. “If this report sparks your next move, we’re here to help you build it right, from day one," added Patel.

Co-authored by Bharti Singhla of Momentum Capital and Paridhi Mishra from Climate Corps, the report focuses on scalable, underfunded opportunities, from industrial heat solutions and agri-biomass utilization to textile recycling and decentralized storage. each vetted through emissions data, on-ground insights, and sector expertise.

“Many aspiring founders are stuck at square one. This map gives them clarity, and the backing of a real ecosystem,” said Singhla and Mishra in a joint statement.

The launch also highlights the growing role of women climate leaders in the sector. Despite women making up just 13 percent of clean energy entrepreneurs in India, the SusMafia team is leading by example, hoping to inspire more inclusive entrepreneurship in climate innovation.

Looking ahead, SusMafia plans to expand the map to include sectors like carbon removal and climate-biotech, while inviting contributions from across the ecosystem for future editions.
