Surat Hazira NH-6 Tollway Pvt. Ltd. has inaugurated a 180 kW solar power plant at Mandal Toll Plaza.

The plant is expected to produce 2.26 lakh units of electricity annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 185 tons, which is equivalent to planting approximately 1,110 trees. Equipped with bi-directional meters, surplus electricity can be fed back into the grid managed by Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited (DGVCL).

The inauguration ceremony, led by Dr. Vipin Garg (IAS), Collector and District Magistrate of Tapi District, was attended by dignitaries including Sanjay Kumar Yadav, Project Director NHAI. Dr Garg highlighted Gujarat's solar potential and the project's role in promoting energy independence and sustainability.

“The solar power plant at the Mandal Toll Plaza marks a major stride in our commitment to sustainability. Gujarat, a state blessed with abundant sunshine throughout the year, has a tremendous opportunity to be a frontrunner in generating and utilising clean, renewable solar energy. This project goes beyond just reducing our environmental impact. By adopting solar power, Surat Hazira NH-6 Tollway is promoting energy independence, creating a more sustainable future for our communities, and setting a positive example for others. We are committed to continuously exploring and implementing renewable energy solutions with partners,” said Dr. Garg.

Surat-Hazira NH-6 Tollway is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) established to develop a 132-km four-lane highway, extending from Chainage 0+000 to Chainage 131+500. This stretch of highway features two toll plazas: one in Tapi District at Mandal (Chainage 54.100 km) and the other in Surat District at Bhatia (Chainage 77.400 km), both located in Gujarat.
